OK, while I am here and thinking about this, I have been thinking about what I could end up with in our 10 gal tank. I tried a couple of calculators that are out there on theoretical max, but realise that experience is probably the only real guide - I would like to end up with the following:

- 6 neons (nb I have 3 in there at the moment)
- 3 platies - 1 male & 2 females
- 3 masked cories

This seems to give the tank what it needs in terms of some bottom feeders to make up for the fusy neons (mine won't eat the green flakes!). Not sure if the platies feed from the top, but seem some posts and articles to suggest they will.

However, anyone thinks this is too much, let me know. I am weeks away from actually buying new fish, but would like to know what I can aim for.

Cheers again
Tim

Seems perhaps a little heavy; I think I would opt for either the platies or the cories, not both, as it is a small tank. Platies do feed from the surface, but will also feed from the bottom; they go all over the tank. The only problem with mixed genders of platies is they breed like rabbits. Cories are easier in that respect.

In my 12 gallon i have 2 Otos 8 neons and 2 swordtails and there al fine.

as long as yuo keep up with wter changes youll be fine.

Cheers - I will be building slowly so see how it goes. Reason for the cories was to hoover the bottom - will a platy do the same?

the platies more or less eat non-stop. they'll find whatever's at the bottom. mine even take care of the algae on the ornaments sometimes
