I've got a 25 gallon tank cycling right now, and I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. I would really like to put in a community of female bettas (I breed bettas, so I always have plenty of them around) and I was thinking about mixing them with one or more species of other anabantoids. I have successfully kept them with pearl gouramis and blue paradise fish before and I was wondering if anyone had tried them with any other anabantoids. I've been looking at spike-tailed paradise fish, but I wonder if they might be too small and get their tail "spikes" nipped. The females I'm putting in are not plakats, so they shouldn't be too feisty. Anyway, any words of wisdom? BTW, female bettas don't seem to have the instinct to attack fish that look like bettas. They're mostly just aggressive toward each other, and smaller fish that look yummy. Thanks.
