Some time ago, my 5ft tank of many, many years started to leak spontaneously...... It was only when I dissembled the tank that I noticed that my Amazon Sword plant developed a root structure which actually penetrated underneath the silicon sealer holding the back glass in place, which caused the tank to leak.

So, in my opinion..... if you do have an Amazon in your tank, trim the roots regularly and/or plant it in the centre of your tank to keep it away from the edges where the silicon is.

That really bad luck. Thanks from the heads up but its just really bad bad luck the chances of something like that happen are really low.

Root are like Ivy, Lud. People say that Ivy will destroy roofs, get into eves and the like, when in fact what the ivy is doing is finding weakness's in place's and exploiting them. Root's do the same, they exploit weakness's, there must have been some kind of weakness in the silicone.
