HI all. I'm relatively new to aquatic plants. I've got an Amazon sword that has shot out a long stem with little Amazon swords along it at intervals. Some of these baby swords have five or six leaves and little roots trailing down. I'm guessing those are ready to be separated and planted. However, looks like I'd need to completely sever the runner from the mother plant, and some of the other new plants don't look ready for separation yet.

1. When is the right time to separate them from the mother plant? Should I wait for all of them to be ready?
2. What is the proper method to separate them from the mother plant? Is there a way to do it without cutting the main sword runner completely?

Thanks.
