been reading around and have read i can put my full stock of fish in the tank once im fully cycled, but also i have read certain fish need to have a more mature tank. I have attached a list below of wanted fish and need some advice if any of them cannot go in once my cycle is complete. I dont want to harm any fish so really need some good advice on this.

2x Keyhole Cichlid
4x Bolivian Ram
7x Platies
5x Corydoras Julii or trilineatus

The tank is 180 litres and has a sand substrate.

thanks

Danny

The platies are definately hardy fish for a first stocking, they'll be fine. As far as I know those particular cories (cories vary) will be fine too.

I am not an expert on the Keyholes or the Rams, so I'll leave that to davo or Wills or Assaye or C101 or somebody who's been through that!

I consider any first stocking that gets you between 50 and 80% of your ultimate stocking to be a big success and probably better than if you stocked 100% anyway. There are a large number of dynamics going on when a beginner transitions from fishless cycling to running a stocked tank and in my opinion it goes a little nicer to stock at about this level and then ease upward if that is the plan.

Thanks for the reply WD. thats good to know that i dont have to stock to 100%. i think if i do between 50 and 80% as you say it will be better, just in case i get any spikes after adding fish. if anyone else can give me an idea on the rams or keyholes to say if they are hardy enough to go into a recently cycled tank lor if they need a more mature tank.

my nitrite was processed over 12 hours for the first time today so hopefully i will be starting my qualifying week real soon.

You might give Davo86 a short PM to ask for a consult on this thread. I would mind a little summary myself on what's felt to be the ideal set of things to worry about before these fish into a community beginner setting and worrying about which introduction they should be in (right after the fishless cycle or perhaps 3 months or 6 months after tank start in order to gain more overall tank maturity...)
