So I've had years of experience with fish tropical and marine.

I started my first high-tech planted tank about 2 months ago. I have 2 large pieces of driftwood that I pretreated and got as much tannins out as possible, even still my water is thick with tannins. I don't really mind it.

About 7 days ago I noticed the tank was getting cloudy. Figuring it was a just going though a small cycle I ignored it. It is still cloudy, probably worse. I did a large 40% water change 4 days ago and several small 1 gallon water changes as much as possible but no more than 2 a day.

Anyway I can't tell the color because of thick tannins. Is there another way to figure out if it is bacteria or algae? I know how to treat each one I just cant be sure which it is.

Thanks

You need to be patient. I'd assume it's bacterial and it will go away on it's own.
This site is mainly in the uk. Unsure where you are, but your original post was at about 9 there the second 2 in the afternoon and third it's now 1 in the morning there. So be patient.

Thanks for the reply, I think I figured out the cause.

I am patient, I originally posted 4 days ago.
