Ahhh I Found A Chocolate Cichlid In Need.

I went to the LFS to see what they had for the holidays and to pick up a treat for the dogs. In the Random cichlid tank they had a 3-4" Chocolate cichlid just keeping to himself in the back conrer of the tank. There were other most crazy africans. This guy looked so out of place and freaked out. If I had room I would get him. I need a bigger tank...............

No can do, my Rotkeil and cupid cichlids are paid for and on their way... of course now the storm has hit... again. With all that is coming from the fish suppliers I have no room. I want a bigger tank too.

Haha I know I need to convert this work shop to a fish room and I'm set. I really want the chocolate cichlid but would be WAY over stocked. Oh well I will just hope for the best for the little fish.

haha yes. Thats just want I need to set up another tank right before I move . We lost power so if I lose any I might get the chocolate. but I hope they all will by fine . This has been a CRAZY storm.

i feel cich (ha lol pun "sick") when i see an american mixed with am african. at petco, they have "assorted african cichlids" and in the tiny 5 g there are about 10 Pseudotropheus (or whatever they;re called) and a massive oscar. in that same tank! along with a firemouth, a powder blue cichlid, an elec. yellow and its awful

Sometimes the mix of africans and SA/CA cichlids can actually work very well, if chosen carefully. The main problem with the tank you describe above is actually the fact that it is only 5g.

doesn't it usually not work? also sounds like a nuclear war in that tank!

Frontosa cichlids are often mixed with CA/SA cichlids. Why? Because as far as an african cichlid goes Frontosa's can be calm and peacefull. Certainly by other African cichlids standards they can be. I've seen them mixed with Oscars and other cicglids. Even shoals of barbs i've seen kept with Frontosa's.

By no means are they the only Old World cichlids to mix with certain none-lake tropicals. Ofcourse i wouldnt reccommend it by any means. Not unless your experienced with both and have a suitably sized tank, with backup options should it not work out.

This tank has the crazy lake cichlids that dart around like nuts and pick on everyone they can. Yes there are some Africans that can go with Americans but ime even the most peacful of African cichlids is a Punk by SA standards. My little 4" buffalo head demands respect from my other 7" sa cichlids. I had a dwarf African butterfly cichlid he was a mean little guy and would always fight the rams.

Anyways all my fish lived so I don't have room for the chocolate cichlid.
