Hi all, I'm completely new to keeping aquariums and my main interest is in our wonderful froggy friends!!! I have just started keeping African Dwarf Frogs and currently have 3 in a 30 Litre glass tank with a heater as my house can be quite chilly!! I'm feeding them Fresh Bloodworms and "Supa Ant Eggs" <--the latter was advised to me by the pet shop man!!! They're quite fun to watch and have funny habits!!! My one frog decided to eat laying on his back yesterday!! From reading some of the earlier posts I think I will try feeding them with a turkey baster as a lot of the food yesterday went to waste. How often do you feed your frogs? I was advised to feed them a small amount daily xx

Hi there and welcome!

I have two ADFs and I feed them a variety of bloodworms (live, frozen or jellied), frozen or jellied brine shrimp, frozen or jellied daphnia. By "jellied" I mean the Tetra Fresh Delica range of foods (it sinks very quickly to the bottom and the frogs seem to be able to locate it easily).

They will even eat the Tetra crisps (if you mix a small pinch with some tank water and then sloosh it into the tank above the frogs the food sinks easily and they will eat it).

My frogs normally get fed twice a day (as are the fish in their tank).

Can I just check which method you use to feed them the bloodworms? Do you just drop the whole frozen cube into their tank?

Regards -Athena

I have 1 ADF in my community tank and it is around a year old.

I feed the whole tank once a day in an evening, most days I feed flake food and catfish pellets, which the frog likes to eat and a couple of times a week I feed bloodworm.

I've read contrasting opinions regarding dropping frozen bloodworm blocks into your tank, some people say its ok, others find it can harm your fish if they eat any particles of 'ice'

I tend to use the plastic water filler from an iron, I collect some tank water and drop a cube into it for 5 mins until it has defrosted before pouring it into the tank, I find this is the best and safest method.

Hi Thanks for your reply, It's the Tetra Fresh Delica range of whole bloodworms that I am feeeding them and not frozen. Thank you for your advice xxx

Hi lillypadlou :)

If you are lucky your little frogs might even sing to you. :D Just make sure that they tank is securely covered. They can escape from surprisingly small openings.

Hi, thanks again for the feedback, my tank is glass and it is completely covered at the top, so hopefully no chance of escaping!! I have gravel covering the bottom of the tank but have read that sand is better. Will this be a big problem? they seem to be moving around well on the gravel

I hope they do sing that would be so so cute!!! I'm hoping to be able to figure out what sex they are but right now it's a little bit difficult to tell!!

hi guys sorry to post again, I just have a question about the lighting for my tank, the tank is in my kitchen which gets a little bit of light I have been turning the light in their tank on of an evening and then turning it back off when i get up. Is this okay? As I've read a few people's posts that have turned their light off of an evening.

Lou x
