I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with keeping a eel with african cichlids mbunas and peacocks .

Most eels found in freshwater aquariums come form soft water and don't do well in hard water. And most eels bury themselves during the day, so unless you have sand on the bottom of the tank, they can't do that and or they get damaged when they try to bury themselves in gravel, shells or coral rubble.

Mbunas would probably bash any eels that come into their territory.

I was thinking the mbunas maybe to aggresive for them was just checking looks like i may have to start another tank up . Thank you for your reply I do appreciate the info .

You do get some Spiney Eels in Lake Malawi but you would need to track down the specific species as other more common Spiney Eels wont do well in the hard water like Colin said.

You would need to plan around them from the start of the tank and stick to the most peaceful species like labs and rusties. And make sure your rocks are nice and secure with sand around them rather than rocks on top of sand etc.
