I have as the title says a 240 Juwel Rio. The pump is submerged and doesnt give much disturbance to the water surface. No fish as gasping for air at the surface.

I have live plants in my aquarium and will soon be introducing java moss to some bogwood in the hope that it will root and grow. Should I introduce some sort of air in to the tank? If so, what is cheap / good? im in the UK so anyone know or perhaps on ebay? Thanks!

I didnt bother waiting for a reply, I found this and bought it:

Does anyone have any experience of these?

Its a Juwel gimick. If you want more areation, get a Hydor Koralia powerhead. What powerhead are you using? You can also upgrade your Juwel powerhead. The venturi is nothing but a ascetic.

This is the one supplied with the rio 240:

I was offered an external filter system, but simply have nowhere to put it.

you can upgrade to a 1500lph. I'm running a Trigon 190 and just using a Juwel internal (only) with a 1000lph powerhead and i also have a nano Koralia running at 900lph and there is enough areation in tank. I chose to use the Koralia rather than upgrade again because you can place them where you want in the tank, to get rid of dead spots.

Sorry I know nothing about these? Im guessing that these just suction stick on the glass which just plugs in to the mains? Do these create bubbles of just agitation of the surface water?

Stupid questions I know but... I cant help it!

Thanks

you don't need bubbles to oxygenate, they do move water but a really just for looks, also if you are planting they bubbles will help get rid of C02, which you'll need for good plant growth. To oxygenate a tank all you need is surface agitation on the top of the water. If you have small ripples, this is plenty. I would suggest upgrading your powerhead or using a Hydor, if you only using the Juwel filter. The Hydor Koralia does plug into the mains and uses either suction or a magnet to hold on to stuff. You will see people giving the Juwel filter a hard time, but personally have had no problems at all with it.

Oxygenating your water is accomplished, at the maximum practical level, by simply moving the water so that it doesn't just sit at the surface. If you stick a hand into the tank and can feel some significant flow, you have enough for good gas exchange. Anything more than that does not increase the gas exchange but may well give better circulation into otherwise stagnant corners. The air bubble thing for a venturi will indeed create some bubbles in the water. I get those with each new power head and immediately toss them into my spare parts pile of equipment. The bubbles are noisy and do nothing of benefit for my tanks.

Thanks for your replies. There is indeed ripples on the surface of the water. Ill see how the juwel addon thing is, if it isnt too noisy then ill keep it.

No fish are at the surface gasping for air so... I guess its ok!

Thanks
