I bet you guys have answered these questions a 100 times before so im sorry, but I have never had an outbreak of whitespot if indeed it is whitespot before. so I am very afraid for my fish.
I have noticed two of my fish, a rainbow cichilid and a rtbs rubbing againts items in the aqurium, none of the others are, and I cant see any white spots on any of the fish yet but I understand this may be an early symtom of the desease.
I have researched quite a few articles on cures and treatments on this and other forums, and have read about increasing the temp, adding salt and white spot chemicals. But I understand that some of these remedies are not suitable for all types of fish. I have cichilids, barbs a rtbs and a plec in the effected tank so require a treatment that will suit them all without too much suffering.
Do you think its white spot or could it be something else?
I live in the Uk, can anyone recommend the kindest remedy or treatment for all of them available here.
thanks Alby

Scratching on rocks doesn't always mean ich. It can be other parasites as well, including gill flukes and velvet. Shine a flash light on the fish, do they look like they are covered in gold specs (some of this is normal for tiger barbs, so focus on the cichlid). Are they breathing rapidly, are the gills red and inflamed, does it look like they are producing excess slime on thier bodies or in their gills?

Also, need to know water stats (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH) tank size and how long it has been set up for

Hi
Thanks for the reply, I cant see spots apart from on the blue acara but it is very difficult to tell if these are whitespot or not as he has loads of natural spot type markings.
On the plain marked fish there is no spots I can see, (although I am starting to get paranoid and seeing what I think is spots everyware).
I have been out to get a whitespot treatment today, should I leave it a couple of days to see if any of the fish it would be obvious on get spots or do it anyway. no signs of panting or slime I can see.
The water chem is fine at 0. 0. 0. did a water change yesterday as part of my normal routine, its a four foot tank with plenty of space and hidey holes for all.
The treatment I have bought is whitespot control by king British and lists malachite green, acriflavine and quinie sulphate as its active ingredients. It says it can also be used as a safeguard when adding new fish so would it be alright to add it anyway?
