I was thinking of adding a Yellow Labido to a 37 Gallon tank with 1 Firemouth, 5 tiger barbs, and 2 rosy barbs. does anyone forsee any issues with this?

As stated numerous times...it is unwise to mix african cichlids with tropicals.

labidochromis caeruleus can be a highly aggressive species and would more than likely create havoc in your tank!!

the firemouth has been ok with the barbs, does the same rule not apply to New World Cichlids?

Not necessarilly!!

There are many new world cichlids that would do well with certain tropicals.

Africans are a whole different story tho, but if your willing to take a chance go ahead and try it!!

skiltrip i would suggest one such as a jewel, acara, chocolate(may need larger tank), convict. If I were in your place, i would go for the jewel. A great looking fish, about the same aggressiveness as your firemouth maybe a bit more territorial. These fish do get very aggressive around breeding but that shouldn't be a factor with one. This is an african cichlid that doesn't really fit in with the mbuna or tangs.

There is no reason to discuss "Is it ok to put Labidochromis caeruleus with other tropical fishes", because L. caeruleus is from Malawi lake and water values are much more different than South America.

So, never mix Malawi with Tanganyika or Malawi/Tanganyika with tropical fishes. They do not belong to together. In both lakes water is basic for example, Tanganyika real basic.

Not only all of the above, but, Africans are so dang quick when it comes to fighting and aggression that what you have in their just can't hang with them, but the FM and Tiger Barbs will try with their temperament and it won't be good.

:grr: I agree...tiger barbs are true bastards....they are like mosquitos!
