Hi,

I have 2 x male dwarf gouramis in a 180l tank. I would like to add some more gouramis but the two i have are quite territorial at times.

I would like to add another type of gourami but I'm not sure which ones would be best suited with the two I have. How many would be beneficial?

Regards Shereezy

180 litres is around 45 gallons so you do have room for more. I'd suggest getting 3-4 or so female dwarfs personaly. That should also reduce any aggression.

If you preffer to get a different species, a couple of female pearl gouramies would work.

Or you could try a couple of thick-lipped or banded gouramies or one of each (these are colisa labiosa and colisa fasciata respectively). It would be ebst to only add females now so as to reduce the chance of introducing more territorial fish and causing serious aggression.

What else is in the tank BTW? You may not actualy have room for more fish at all after all.

I'd also like to see how densely stocked your tank is in the mid-layers as you could add a trio of croaking or sparkling gouramies depending on what else you already own.

Still, adding a couple of female dwarfs per male dwarf is the best option IMO.

Thanks for your comments.

At the moment I have 6 x red eye tetras, 4 neons, 3 glow lights, 2 harlequin rasboras, 4 cherry barbs, 2 bronze cory, 2 guppies 2 dwarf neon rainbows. So far, the gouramis are the largest fish in the tank. They were very terrorial in a smaller tank but since moving them into the 180l they seem to have settled down a lot. Its mainly a male orientated tank as I don't want to breed.

If not a gourami is there another fish which you would suggest which would be on a similar size and is quite placid (apart from the gouramis having a go now and again the tank is very peaceful) and obviously do not want to disturb the calm.

Thanks again
Sheree

Actualy, yes, I'd suggest adding to the various schooling fish you have. the rainbows, the rasboras, the glow lights, the neons, the cories - all would do better with at least a couple more added to each group - prefferably enough so you have 6 of each. The cherry barbs are fine - they don't 'school' so to speak. The guppies are also ok and the gouramies are fine as they are. With all those fish in the tank, you'd have room for about 1 or 2 more 2" or so fish - perhaps a couple of female platies.
