After hearing that dwarf gourami's are very prone to disease I wanted to get some advice on what gourami's to add.

I have a 60 gallon tank
3 pictus cats,
1 rtbs
8 danios
8 cherry barbs

I was thinking of adding 4-6 gourami's that stay smaller in size, which is why I was thinking of the dwarfs. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Keep in mind I dont have access to a lot of specialty fish stores in Denver, CO.

Pearls maybe? They're not the tiniest and are apparently quite passive. If you want little ones Honeys are nice.

You could prob have just about any ones you want in a tank that size but I don't know about temprement.

Is it Cherry Barbs that can be sods for picking on slow fish? If so they maybe not coz I think Gouramis get stressed with speedy fish :S

I will take a look at my LFS, Is my paranoia with Dwarf Gourami a reality with a good tank or should I just go with Dwarfs?

Also, can I keep mulptiple types of gouramis?

as far as cherry barbs being fin nippers I have really not seen it. They are a lot more skittish than i have been told, maybe it is just the 8 that I have but if I walk into the room they retreat into the plants.

If someone wants to make some suggestions of what they would add to a moderatly planted tank with wood barriers and hollowed out pots as well for dwarf or regular please do so. I am use to catfish, plecs and discuss, but I want an easier to keep tank due to my travel schedule.

Thanks

the disease is not as bad anymore if you do get dwarfs then as said get 4-6 to spread the aggression great little fish

I'd get Dwarfs if you want them. Loads of people reckon they've never had a prob with them!

I think there can be issues with multiple species though. Have a look through the posts coz I'm sure there was something about that a while back.

I wanted gouramis but was unsure whether to get honeys or dwarfs etc,has i'd heard various things about the diseases they can get,i eventually went for sparkilng gouramis, which are pygmy ones,at the moment the largest is around an inch and they are so cute.

Good luck with what you decide. :good:

Those pearls are great looking little fish, but at an inch and a half full grown I fear that they will be the slowest thing in the tank for the pictus cats to eat. It looks like I am going to go the rout of the dwarfs, and choose carefully what ones I want as it appears they want to be kept in groups of their own species. I have a few more plants to add before I add before I do anything so I can provide lots of natural barriers and hiding places for the catfish.

I will get pics up in a few weeks once my tank is finished

Thanks for all the help, It is really appreciated it

Show us pics when you get them!

Oh and a side note.....apparently it's best to keep 2 females to every male :)
