Hi, my fishless cycle is just about complete and i'm thinking about stocking, i know i leave the new fish in their bag for about 20 mins to allow for temperature change and then i add a bit of my tank water, once thats done do i pour the water with the fish in it into a net over a sink with the plug in incase of any accidents? Is that the best way to add fish? The hole at the top of the Fluval Edge is pretty small :good:

I would take the bag out after it has floated for 15-20 mins then net them out and throw away the water in the bag and pop em in the tank

edit for spelling, why can't I spell 'the'??

Yes, I agree with the cat people above (the very typing of this ensures that my siamese cat, Cooper, will now come to the kitchen door and want to stop in for food) that its a great habit to plan to -net- your fish out of the bag/temporary water and just put the fish (with the few drops of water on them) into the main tank. This minimizes the transfer of water from your quarantine tank (or the LFS tank) into your main tank.

For fish that I worry are more sensitive, I use a plastic container, somewhat larger than a cup, which I put the fish and bag water in to. I then add a small amount of main tank water to this container every half hour or so. I've found a great time to do this is during weekly maintenance -- if you can plan to make your fish purchase prior to your weekly maintenance then you can do these half-hour water adds while you are moving about the room gravel cleaning and otherwise working on your main tank and it all works out nicely. When I'm not adding water to this container I keep it covered up with a dark cloth to calm the fish. After a few hours of these little additions I pour the fish and water through a big net (water going to a larger bucket) and put the fish in the destination tank (my quarantine tank or the main tank if I didn't plan to quarantine.)
