Actinics

just added new actinic lights to my tank. i havent had them on there for almost a year. I raised the lights by about 6 inches more from where the halide level was. so all the lights are approximately 18 inches above the water level. do i need to even do this? i have 2 175 watt 14 k bulbs on the tank that have been running. the actinics are 40 watts apiece

Probably not tbh. Actinic lighting has low PAR output to start with, and is probably a drop in the bucket compared to those twin halides. A simpler course of action would be to just set them at the height you want and slowly increase the photoperiod (amount of time on each day)
