so i just bought a female guppy (yellow) and a male (lyretail? lightblue) yesterday
i already had one male and one female in the tank from a drop before
well the yellow female i got yesterday gave birth this afternoon!!
i collected 7 and put them in a small pitcher for tonight only
and put the female in a breeder net cuz she is still fat
there is still 5-7 swimming in the tank but with the breeder net in i cant catch them
sp my question is...if the father was a lyretail (which i think means the tail is split) what are the chances of fry being that way? i do not believe the mom is of that strain but she was kept in the tank with the "split tails" so i believe she is bearing ones children haha.

thers almost a 1% chance that the lyretail is the father.

if the female has been in the same tank with a male in the past 3 months there will be a different father.

conngrats on the fry, as said the lyretail probably isn't dad, females can store sperm from a single mating for up to 7 lots of fry, which is 7 months

aww dang =(
they are still cute and i like them just the same

so how long until i see colors?
and til i can tell the sex?

another thing i was just wondering...when a guppy is born does it already have the genes for it's sex? or is it subject to change based on the environment it is born into?

when a guppie is born, it is fully developed. its genes already no what it will look like and everything.
just think of it like a human.
they have baby every 28 days.
give birth to live young
baby comes out fully devloped.
baby mama drama
just like a human.
