Hi all,

I have been having many issue's with my Ammonia test's coming up with a 0.25ppm trace and was wondering if this could be due to my tapwater having that amount it? I know that even if this were the case the the ammonia within the tank should be processed to nitrIte then Nitrate but what i was thinking is that i always clean my test tubes in tapwater after use, Would this cause these readings?

I once cleaned them properly using washing up liquid and rinsing them thoroughly and that was the only time i got 0ppm of ammonia but it didn't click them.

What do you think?

(media is 8 months old and i have not had any fish issue's since the very beginning. NitrIte is 0ppm and Nitrate is normally around 30 - 40ppm before water change)

I also have chloramine in my tap water that breaks down to chlorine and ammonia. I have a small bowl next to the sink where I do my water testing and I leave the test tubes to drip dry by turning them upside down leaned against the side of the bowl. By the time I want to test again, there are no traces of the rinse water from my previous test. As you say, when I do a water change, I can never measure any ammonia in the water as soon as an hour after the change.
