Have kept fish for 10 years, plants not so much.

Java Fern and Anubias are my friends, they live with no input and despite zero efforts have always thrived in my tanks.

About to buy a Dymax IQ5, a 13l pico that I was going to go marine with but I haven't got the time to maintain a sw volume that small.

So, going to try an Amano (ish) set up, with a desert twist.

Problem is I live in Dubai, LFS here are crap, and selection is poor.

What I would like to try and achieve is a wood based scape with one plant that is underwater, but will flower/grow outside the tsnk (will have no lid)

Is there such a plant? If so what do I need to be requesting my shop to order or try and order online myself?

All options considered and appreciated.

TIA

the best for this are Aponogetons, you're almost guaranteed flowers from these.

I got my google on, lots of reference to a dormant period.

I can scape effectively with wood easily, been doing that for years, quite looking forward to the challenge in such a small space.

However I would like something that will grow continuously, am I being unrealistic with that genus?

there are types of Aponogetons that do need dormant times, i'm unsure of the type but its not the common type like aponogeton ulvaceus, these will go all the time. Its actually the rarer ones that need dormant periods. One of the pics on google image search is actually one of my Aponogeton flowers. They smell great too.

Again, thanks.

Generally sold as bulbs or plant?

If bulbs, how commonly available are they in the UK? If so I can potentially get some sent over.

Am trying to source locally but it is soooo hit and miss here, I found someone to import 'fancy' plecos for me (my first love), order is in, 2 weeks has turned into 2 months and counting...

They are very available in the UK, it might be worth dropping Jim and Mark and email at The Green Machine

They are normally sold as bulbs. I hope you succeed!

Lovely, will do this tomorrow.

You could also try some of the Asian suppliers on eBay that ship worldwide, quite often have bulbs available for good value.

you wouldn't happen to have a link to one would you, there are literally hundreds of vendors on eBay and it's making my eyes bleed trawling through them. Nothing matched when I searched for the specific plant

I bought a couple of apo. crispus bulbs from them not long ago, very good bulbs, came very quickly and they sprouted immediately.

Hope they help
