I need to know the best bulbs to use for plants. I have 2 double bulb strip lights. I am at 2.9 watts per gallon on my 55. 48 inch tubes 40 watts each bulb. But I just bought the bulbs from walmart. No clue about what the right bulb would be. Can someone point me in the right direction?

go to a home improvement store like Home Depot, there you will find full spectrum bulbs or "daylight" bulbs. try to find some with a Kelvin temperture of 5500-6700.
Best thing is the only cost $3-8.
Edit: 5500K and 6500K being my favorites.. a variety is good.

A fish store near you sells lights which are specifically made for aquariums....they are considerably more expensive than ones bought from home-depot as aquasea-foam mentioned...currently i have both a Aquaglow/Floraglow from my ifsaswell as 2 full spectrum daylight bulbs which i got from home depot.
