I'm in the process of stocking my 2nd tank, and yesterday I added 3 peppered cory's to it. I never really looked closely at them at the time, but I went to feed them today, and noticed one of them looks like it has no eyeballs. On both sides, where it's eyes should be, it looks to have just hollowed out eye sockets. At first I thought "Maybe that's just what they look like?", so I checked the other 2 corys in the tank, and the peppered cory I have in my other tank, and all of them have normal looking eyes. Now, it doesn't seem to be behaving any differently then any of the other corys, so I don't think it's blind, but I really can't say for certain.

Has anyone else ever seen this?

Take the fish back, explain the situation to them and ask them for a replacement, dont be arrogant though.

yup, either a genetic abnormality from birth or he's lost them in a fight.

some fish are blind and seem to manage perfectly well, if he's happy and healthy then leave him be!

He seems to be happy and healthy, although I havn't even had it for 24 hours yet and havn't really been watching him too closely, so I can't say for certain yet.

just monitor for a couple of days, see how he goes.

Also I would ring the LFS and tell them.

1) it'll help you out should you need to take him back

2) they can check their cory tank

Well actually I was in there today picking up a few more Corys(All the ones I got today have all their eyes, lol), and I was talking to the manager and he said I could bring it in and get it exchanged if I wanted. I told him that i'll hold onto it for a couple of days to see how it does, if it doesn't seem to be a problem then i'll keep him, but if it's not looking good, i'll bring him back. Manager said that was fine, so i'll wait and see what happens in the next few days.

If he can get around, get his food and survive just like the other cories, let him be. I'd personally love him. lol.

As fish have many other more highly-developed senses they are often able to thrive even without eyes.
Their lateral line system is very complex and enables them to get around obstacles even in pitch blackness (take the blind cave tetra for example).
Corydoras also have highly sensative barbels around their mouths which enable them to find food easily.

I'd say keep him, he should manage just fine :)

If it were me id keep him - if you take him back the fish shop will probably euthanize him anyway as they wont be able to resell him if hes defective. He stands a better chance of surviving with you.
