Hi just got my new tank (juwel rio 300) and have had a thought about some fish i could get, would this work?:
an oscar, a severum, a blue acara and a jack dempsey.
I still might go for african cichlids or discus but i have always wanted an oscar :good:
Thanks
Lloyd

Minimum recommended for an Osar is 75g alone, however, you might also get away with a JD or BA with it, along with some dithers. An O, Sev, JD & BA would be seriously pushing it for size but more territory would be the problem.

hi lloyd

ive got a similar sized tank, and just looking at the stocking now. had a similar plan as yours to begin with, but agree with minxfishy that an oscar in there would really limit the rest. im going with a sev jd and maybe a nicaraguan then a large shoal and some pictus for the bottom. think it will make a nice looking community even without an oscar. i picked up my jd last week and he's very interactive - not to the level of some juvi oscars - but he's always out when anyone walks into the room.

Oh well i thought so but on aq advisor said it would only be 103% stocked.
Could you set up the tank like a lake malawi set up with lots of hiding places and retreats for the fish? (i know probably not but it might work)
Thanks
Lloyd

75g would make a nice malawi tank . altho if youve really got your heart set on an oscar you could have 1 but as others have said , you wouldnt be able to have much else . its all down to wether you prefer to have 2 bigger more interactive "wet pets" of a rich variety of fish .

Yeah i know, i wouldnt go for malawi but a tanganyika is one of my options or discus like i said. An oscar would be nice but it seems like spending allot setting up the tanks and everything just to have one or two fish in there. I have a while to decide i am going to cycle my tank first so will be a few week yet to make my decision.
Thanks
Lloyd
