I have a 7 gallon 27 liter 30cm cube tank in my living room I was thinking of adding maple stone, and some live plants any advice on the stocking.
Thanks.

What are the tank dimensions (length x width x height)?

What is the GH (general hardness), KH (carbonate hardness) and pH of your water supply?
This information can usually be obtained from your water supply company's website or by telephoning them. If they can't help you, take a glass full of tap water to the local pet shop and get them to test it for you. Write the results down (in numbers) when they do the tests. And ask them what the results are in (eg: ppm, dGH, or something else).

If you use mains water from a company, contact the water company by phone or visit their website and ask them what the general hardness (GH) and carbonate hardness (KH) are. If they can't help you, take a glass full of water to a pet shop and ask them to test it for you. Write the results (in numbers) down when they do the tests.

You can also buy GH and KH test kits but the GH and KH doesn't normally change much so the kits aren't worth buying.

I have a tank the same size as yours and I keep shrimp in it. 30 cm is not very much swimming room for fish.

Like fish, different species of shrimps need different water chemistry, so you need to know hardness for shrimps as well.

If you are in the UK (you use cm) your water company is unlikely to give KH. The few that do call it alkalinity.

Look on your water company's website for hardness. If you can't find it, tell us the name of the water company and I'll see if I can find the page on their website.

So soft water.

If the tank has a lot of live plants to make them feel secure you might get away with chili rasboras. I tried them in my 30 litre cube but they weren't happy so I moved them into my main tank.
I have red cherry shrimps in there now. This is the easiest shrimp so if you decide on shrimps I would try this species first. There are other colours besides red - orange, yellow, blue are the common ones.
