Hey guys! I am new here and have learned a ton poking around on this site. Thank you for all your posts.

I have a 55 gal that had 6 large goldfish/koi in it. One got sick, I treated the whole tank instead of changing him to a hospital tank, long story short, everything died except Pico my Pleco (kids named him Pico).

I have a tropical 46gal tank, and a 10 with baby koi & goldies.

The hubby and I are arguing about what to put in the 55g since we have to start over. I like the goldies because they are so interactive. He likes tropical because of the different choices of fish and looks. Saltwater is out of the question though.

Here is the question finally... (sorry to ramble) You guys are much more experienced at this, what do you think we should put in the tank?

plecos and coldwater fish shouldnt be mixed, its not right, healthy or natural. if you want to keep the pleco id suggest investing in a heater and going tropical. you'll get more fish in the tank, better colours and a wider variety. remember to always research your fish before you buy them

I like to have a couple pairs of Gouramis (Pearl's are my favorite) as well as small fish (5-7 of each type)that travel in schools such as Zebra Danios and Neon Tetras. They are a lot of fun to watch. :)

Hi. There are so many different tank set-ups and types of fish that you can put into a 55g that it is hard to offer suggestions. Everyone will tell you something different based on what they like. You can see what i have in my tank in my sig below. Sometimes it is better to find some fish that you are interested in and then post back here and people will let you know if what you have chosen will work or not!
Good luck, and enjoy your new set-up.

i would go with afticans but u would need a heater. i love them they are nice and colorful but thats just me

Hey guys, thanks for the input and advice. Just to let you all know I went with Ciclids, convicts and clown loach. The loaches I just moved from another tank. Total 7 for right now.

I have the heat at 74. Feel free to chew my butt if I am screwing up. Thanks!

Maybe you could get some mollys, or female bettas, I don't recommend you too get a male betta for a community tank though, as they are sometimes aggresive towards other fish, not all the time but just to be safe, i'd only go for females.

get a few more clown loaches as they like to be in groups :)

I got to wondering if maybe the tank is full now. Because the ciclids will get 8-10 in, and wont the loaches get to be 12?

BTW, I forgot to say before, but Pico didn't make it, he went shortly after the first post. So how about a guy that will be an algae eater as well.

That is interesting that female bettas will go in a community tank. You learn something new everyday. I live kinda in the boonies, so walmart is where most of my stuff comes from and they keep the female bettas separate just like the males.
