you can use pool filter sand but i would do it 4 inches thick- 1.5-2 inch would be plenty. Im not really clued up on victorian species but generally you would want one male to a small group of females so they arent getting harrassed singularly.  Whats your tank dimensions? cheers

Just found this. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/p_nyererei_python.php

You might be able to have one dom male and a sub dom and then a group of females

The tank is 24 inches long x 12 inches wide x 25 inches tall. I have 2 inches of sand in my Kribensis tank and they have dug out some areas right down to the bottom of the tank ( if you look under the tank through the stand you can see right up through where they have dug out ) That's why I was going to do around 4 inches of sand.

i do love the colorization of the Python Island cichlids. I also like the colorization of Paradise Fish. I'm kind of up in the air with which ones I want to go with ( I am leaning more towards the Python Island ones though )..

I have already taken my rocks and washed them down, done a set up of how I want them to go in the tank ( 2 huge caves with lots of swim through areas ).

It's taking me some time on this tank because I have to move some furniture around in my living room to put this tank up, As I already have 2 tanks ( A 55 gallon and a 20 gallon high ). This tank will be my final tank so I'm really thinking this one through.

No matter which type of fish I go with of the above mentioned, i'm going to have to order them from somewhere ( My LFS has stopped ordering fish until the fall as his business stops during the summer time and he refuses to do a single order for just one person ).

Any other thoughts?

I see youve found a breeder in your other thread. After a little research myself you want to ending up with one male and 5ish females. You might be able to get a sub dom male. If you were to grow a load out and then removed males as you went would prob be the best bet. The only doubter im having is that your tank is only 2ft long. Personally i wouldnt put them in there as they havent much side to side space to swim. A general search comes up with similar results. cheers
