Hello everyone. I just registered to learn more about the aquatic side of tanks. Normally i have built vivariums and related land based systems. Now quite a lot more interested in the aquatic aspects and will be incorporating them into all my future builds.

Here is a biotope tank that is from where i live in south east Taiwan that me and my wife built. Its about 1.5 years running now, as you can tell the water area is quite sparse! This part of the country borders on the sub tropical to tropical line and there is quite a lot of biodiversity here.

The tank is 340 liters. There are 3 levels: aquatic (which has caves and open water), lowland which is actually mostly a slow moving stream and high land which is more for certain ferns.

The left side has a small waterfall gowing from the top and down through the stream which comes out at the right to allow circulation.

Water area is pretty shallow, maybe 6" max.

There are numerous plant species, havent identified all yet. 19 species i think.

7+ species of large fruiting fungi, including the glowing local Mycena.

4 species of millipedes, 3 of which are confirmed to have been breeding.

Seasonally tadpoles we relocate from our farm irrigation ponds when draining. Keep a few tadpoles to watch and release back at the farm when they become frogs. Right now have 2 toadlets and 2 treefrogs. About to be released back to the farm when we finish ploughing.

Looking into local species of fish, but thats why im here. To learn. The biotope is cheating as i put in 3 corydoras and a couple shrimp to help clean things up.

Some photos of the tank.

Lots of interesting native local species trying to learn about. We have a few special endemic species in taiwan like the land locked fresh water salmon species that lives in high mountains.
