Im new,

But, whats the differance in a branded t5 at the LFS and one such as this?

Its 6500k daylight, stick a few in and find somein blue and thats all surely? Fraction of the cost from LFS.

We're paying for phosphors that aren't commonly used. In my experience, industrial/office lamps like these rend to be more yellow than their kelvin rating suggests. Remember, there is no science in kelvin rating, it's an arbitrary designation. If you put 10 different 6500k lamps side by side, they will all look different. And keep in mind it takes a lot more blue (actinic) lamps to correct a yellow lamp... If it were that simple, evereone would be using office lamps .

You can however typically find cheaper deals for aquarium lamps online.
