So I found this acrylic tank in an ad, it was only £10 including an unused Marina S15 Slim filter.
Couldn't resist, I had to buy it. It would look great on the £5 tank base I found on that other ad...

It was only then that I realised what the second tank syndrome is...

Anyway, I bought a 50W heater, a thermometer, some black sand and 5 beautiful stones. I also dumped the original media of the filter and replaced them with custom cut sponges, filled the tank with water and today is the first day of cycling. I used the light from my AquaNano 40 (which was replaced by a 64 LED lamp). So now it's time to start planning the aquascape and the stocking.

Here's the tank:

The tank holds 20lt (count when I filled it up) and the dimensions are (cm) 38W x 25D x 25H
Water is pH 7.8 and hardness is dGH 5.25

I really like the way the stones are, but I'd like to add some plants to hide the heater and filter, without changing the location of the stones.
Any ideas on planting?

Also, I was thinking of stocking it with a betta, but I don't think the tank will be planted enough to provide a good habitat for it, as it won't be heavily planted. I will definitely add MTS for the sand, but that's all I could find after several days of searching.
Any ideas on stocking?

i would say that you can put a beta, and some snails for company... or you can convert it into a small shrimp tank.

Thank you for the list, very useful reference!
But I was more interested in where to put plants.
Sorry I didn't explain that.

My only thought so far is to add some carpeting plant, just to avoid loosing the nice effect the stones do.
But if anyone has an alternative, please do tell me!

most carpet plants need a good amount of light, ferts etc.

what i would do with the plants is make them look like they are coming from behind and between the rocks having the tallest on the back 2 corners and getting shorter towards the middle and possibly have some small cuttings in front to fill the open space up a bit more.

and have some coming out in front of the stone to the far left

i agree with berry attack that would make a nice shrimp tank.
