I have a 20 Gallon tank that I am cycling now and will be looking to stock sometime in the new year.... that should give me some time to decide/research a community!

I am looking for some advice with regards to stocking, I am not too worried about having a lot of fish, or having a lot of color. I originally thought that lots of fish and colors was the way to go, then saw a huge tank with just 2 oscars and realized just how visually effective fewer fish could be.

My tank has a black sand substrate and fake plants (I have had numerous problems with rotting vegetation that I have given up).

I have a contact who can provide me with 2 juvenile clown loaches, which I would put in the 20G until they become more mature and then I will rehouse them to a larger tank - I have been told that they will outgrow the tank, but they grow fairly slowly. I am thinking that a couple of small silver dollars would look effective.... any suggestions?

My ultimate plan would be to use this tank as an interim tank until I have saved for a large tank (100 Gallons +) and then change this 20G into a small saltwater beginner project.

Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.
