Hi Guys, Let me start off by saying that I'm very apprehensive about this post. I have built a refurgium for about $2 if my conversions are correct. I wanted to create a refurg for my 35L/ 9g tank and also thereby increase the water volume;flow; ect. My biggest problem was the lack of a funds, so I figured I'd use what I had on hand. My hope is that everybody can see that anything is possible in this fantastic hobby.

So i've taken some pics with a brief discription of the process that I took.

My first challenge was to creat a weir at the back of the tank. I did this by raising the height of my tank by about 5cm and leaving a gap at the back for the weir.

Next was to make a box to catch the water falling through the weir. This was done by fitting an old garden hose fitting to a plastic box.

This box was attached to the back of the tank with silicon below the weir.

I used a washing powder bucket (clean of course)

, a 500ml coke bottle, and a tupperware container for the next bit.

The top and part of the bottom of the bottle were removed. This was then put inside the tupperware (my wife hasn't noticed yet. :shifty: ). This would then be placed below the inlet. My first compartment.

The I modified an old pump that I had to allow me to attach the return pipe to it. The pump is raised off the gravel by placing it on a piece of rock so that it won't suck in the gravel.

I then put it all together with some gravel and bits of ocean rock in the bucket; fired it up and very shortly noticed the long tenticals of the worms in the gravel doing their thing.

Complete pics.

Thank you for looking.

Great piece of diy!

Are you going to put some macros in there with a small light over it?

This is awesome. What a piece of DIY! I'd certainly try to find a cheap clip light and put some macros in there.
