2 Dwarf Gouramis

Hey,

For some reason the site only lets me post in the "New to the hobby" section but nevermind.

Basically, I bought 2 dwarf gourami (not sure on sex) from a store in Leeds yesterday afternoon.

It wasn't until I got home and put them in the tank that I realised that they shouldn't be put in a tank with a betta...what with them being from the same family, etc. The store said they would be fine but after a lot of research i've found this to be wrong.

I kept an eye on them last night and as far as I was aware my betta was only flaring at them, NOT attacking them. I thought they'd be ok as it just looked like the betta was warning them, etc.

However, I woke up this morning to find both gourami's with signs of bite marks on them. I can only assume it was the betta as he's still flaring at them.

So...I was wondering if there was anyone in the york area who fancied a couple of FREE gouramis. One has red and blue stripes and the other is mainly red. I love my betta so would rather keep hold of him, but I hate to see the gouramis suffering so would rather they had a better home. I'm also going to put an ad on the york freecycle page later on today but thought i'd offer them on here first.

BRILLIANT!! I only have one left though. The blue and red striped one. I realised that the fighter wasn't attacking it, but the other gourami was! lol! I seperated them last night and treated the damaged fish with Melafix but unfortunately I lost him last night

I still have the other if you're interested. My fighter is still flaring at it so don't want to risk it and i'm sure it's not doing the fighter any good getting angry every 5 mins! lol! Gimme a ring on 07595 029669 and i can meet you half way if you like? Tadcaster for eg?

P.S. I tried to see if my lfs in york would be interested in them but they said they didn't have the facilities to treat them as they're expecting a big order tonight.

Aww sorry The other seems to have only one bite mark (probably from when the deceased was sticking up for itself! lol) but he seems to be swimming about quite happily!

I think they both must have been males if they were attacking each other. They're from the same family as betta's aren't they? Which would also explain why the betta keeps flaring at him! lol!

If xmurdererx cant take the one i've still got i'll let you know though.

Like i said before i'd let you know if you can have the gourami. Basically I need it gone asap as explained so if you still want the gourami then gimme a call on the above number. I've gotta be out of the house in the next hour so if you like i'll drop it off in selby?

xmurdererx - sorry but i really really need it gone. The longer it stays in my tank the more stressed it's getting. I'm at wits end! Xx

Unfortunately the other has just passed away (I'm useless I know! lol!)

I've checked my water and the stats are all fine so think it could have just had something to do with the wound.

I hate losing fish. At least my betta can stop flaring at the other fish and get back to flaring at his own reflection! Vain git! lol!

Thanks to you both for offering to take them when they were still kicking about! lol!
