how much should i clear the tank out a week

Personally I would just buy a filter. You can get clear-seal filters on ebay for under £10 including postage on ebay and they will filter up to a 15 gallon tank. I think it is a good investment and would save you a lot of time I have two myself and they work well. Also believe that bettas are quite sensitive to temperature fluctuations so thermostatically controlled heater isn't a bad idea either although in a centrally heated house you can probably get away without.

i through tht they didnot like current

No idea. Or if you are worried about current and have a spare airpump( also about £10) you could build the sponge filter pinned at the top of the DIY section. Reconsidering I think this is much more sutible. I use one in a shrimp tank and I think it would be perfect and cheap for such a small tank.

They dont mind currents, just not strong ones. but in a 2.5gal, like mine i have heaters and no filters. if you keep on top of the water changes then you will be fine. You do need to make sure that the temperature stays constant and isnt always up and down!

id do 50% changes every 2days to be on the safe side. but getting a filter will reduce the amount of times you have to clean them.

If you don't have filter. . . . then do 100% water changes weekly.

If you get a filter - you can get an hob or a sponge. But w/ hob's you can slow down the currect.

And if you get a filter - cycling is your friend.
