2.5 Gallon Tank Bio Sponge Question

Hi,
 I just got a 2.5 gallon tank and I noticed that the filter doesn't have a bio sponge just a carbon filter. Will I have trouble cycling this tank if it doesn't have the sponge? If so, is it possible to buy a sponge, separate, for the tank? I searched online but can't seem to find where I can buy a sponge for such a small tank without buying a whole new filter..

I'm guessing it's the aqueon mini bow? I have same one but mine has shrimp. The filter that comes with it has really bad, I'd go buy a sponge filter instead...they're only 4-5$ plus the air pump. I'm using a jardin mini sponge filter off amazon that works great.

A sponge filter and air pump would be a good idea... but here's something to look at:

Fluval also makes a bunch of sponges. I was able to snag three boxes for fifty percent off each at my LFS so I'm stocked for a while. I like them because they are of medium density, but they retain bacteria well. I just cut one sponge to fit my tanks. One sponge typically covers three filters for me.
