So I was cleaning out my basement and found an old Aqueon 2.5 gallon tank and now I can't resist the idea of setting up a nano iwagumi style aquascape in it. I've never really done a planned aquascape before. I have a planted 10 gallon tank but its not that well layer out. So any ideas as far as plants and equipment for it, I just want to brainstorm. I know I'm gonna have a dwarf hairgrass carpet because I have a ton left over from my 10 gallon. So again any ideas are appreciated.

-Thanks,
Joe :)

java moss, anubias, anachris (definitely get that) anubias, amazon sword, crypts, corkscrew val, jungle val

Well with Iwagumi you only want one or two plant species anyway so If your going for dwarf carpet why not regular eleocharis at the back to give it depth, set out the stones, depending on light etc maybe a CO2 kit and some all in one ferts from somewhere like TNC.

Remember to get a filter that's at least 25GPH flow rate as flow is the big make or break in planted tanks. ;)

Haha wouldn't it be nice to find a random tank in my basement!

I have a 3g that has a centerpiece of planted driftwood featuring a beautiful Anubias with duckweed on top. There's also a rock that I'm hoping to grow some Christmas moss on. I did have another plant in there but it died due to lack of light, which also yellowed the Anubias. I bought a dedicated lamp for it (the Anubias seems to be perking up, fingers crossed) and it looks lovely as a little aquascape with just the duckweed, rock and Anubias planted on the driftwood. You could use a different floating plant, of course, and maybe use a java fern or something more colourful for your centrepiece.

I love having planted wood pieces in my aquariums, I think they look beautiful in any aquarium.

Well unfortunately I didn't see these posts till it was too late. I scrudped the idea of starting a new tank and decided to focus on the 10 (glad I did too its been a bear lol) Instead I'm using it as a grow out/test tank for my plants. I have it set up so its basically a smaller version of the 10 as far as ferts, lighting etc go. So what I do for example is if I want to see what adding more macros in my 10 would do I first do it in the 2.5 and see how it goes then do it in the 10. So far it has been a tremendous help and I actually like the look of it. It's just a mess of plants in and out and it's kind of like a fun little experiment lol.

Nonetheless thanks for the suggestions and I will eventually do a nano iwagumi in the future and I'll remember the tips

Thanks again,
-Joe
