HI everyone. I kind of just jumped into this on Friday. My pet rabbit of 3 yrs died of medical complications from an issue the vet was trying to fix. I couldnt stand looking in the corner of the house where that rabbit cage was so i went and bought a 10 gallon tank from walmart ( evil store ). I set it up friday night. Filter, thermometer, fake plants (for now), gravel, hollow log thing and fresh water. I put the proper amount of dechorinator for 10 gallon tank. After 24 hrs i checked the temp and it holding steady at 74 degrees. I put 5 Zebra danios in it.
I would like to put 1 Otocinclus and if possible 1 or 2 Dwarf Gourami....
Can i do that? and When can i do that? I know i need to get a gravel vaccum thing and do partial water changes 1 time a week ( Sundays i have decided ) and filter changes 1 time a month.
Just wanted learned peoples opinions of my plan and how i am doing so far. Thanks for all help. :)

Hi, welcome to the world of tropical fishkeeping..!

What you need to do now is visit the beginners section and read up on "fishless" and "fish-in" cycles (the latter being what you are now classed as).
The beginners section will verify to you that you will now need to do ALOT more than weekly water changes (most probably daily, if not twice daily) and changing your filter once a month will kill your fish.
Please try and get hold of a liquid based test kit (API Master Test Kits are widely recommended on here), start testing your water and logging it on here then be prepared to become VERY good at water changes VERY quickly.

Best of luck.

Terry.

You did jump in a bit fast, sorry you lost your rabbit
Your filter isn't cycled yet, please have a look on the beginners section for how to do it.
Don't add any more fish & you might be better returning the danios as I don't think your tank is big enough for them.
Even when your filter is cycled, Oto's don't do well in new tanks, & need to be kept in groups.

Thanks you guys. Really had no idea it was this involved. Where is the beginners section?

Don't worry it sounds quite scary when you first start out, but everyone here is very helpful, so any questions just ask.
Here's the beginners section

Thank you SOOOOO much! :D
Normally I do a LOT of research before investing in something. My emotions got the better of me this time.

Most people think that fish are easy to look after, so they don't need to bother researching!

At least you're here now and can get some good advice :good:

I'm sorry for the loss of your rabbit; losing any pet is a hard time, you have my sympathies.
