16Gal Sumped Marine Tank

So, Am picking up my tank on friday along with the sump. Thought I'd start my journal here.
 
Been looking at stock so far, These are what I like the looks of:
 
Yellow Clown Gobys, Love the looks of these!

So I picked up my tank today. It's still setting though.

Nice! I'm a bit confused about the 3rd, lowest pipe weir though?

Two overflows and one return. Ones a back up incase it gets blocked and there's no risk of flooding.

Thats for the PumpI guess, He said I can adjust the flow if the water pump does not adjust?
 
Not sure, I think he prefers doing the right angle I don't mind it really.

So the tanks been running for a day now. The water has cleared up putting the substrate in but am not 100% sure if it's too deep or not?

Also, Live rock. I think there's around 4KG in that one rock alone but would you suggest adding more ? Maybe more hiding spots for fish etc and more places to put coral etc.
 

 
My salinity is around 1.024 and I hope this is a good place to have it sitting I take it? Am using Red sea salt and I also got a box of reef energy. Has anyone used this stuff? Is it any good? I know it's just for corals but I am due to get softies once the tank cycle is over whenever that may be.

PH is around 8.2- 8.4 I can't really tell, It's quite a deep purple colour.

Temp is around 25c

Skimmers been running for 24 hours too and hasn't really skimmed anything, Its just clear water in the cup and a small cloud of white stuff? Apart from that it hasn't done much, It is brand new and most likely bedding in I hope?

Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: Zero or trace, It's quite hard to tell


Anyway, Look like normal stats to me for a first day unless am wrong.

A slow start on the skimmer is definitely normal, keep in mind that not only is the skimmer new but there is probably very little for it to actually be taking out of the water at first.  As your tank cycles and there is some die off from the live rock you will see a change in the skimmer.  When i was getting started i had to adjust my skimmer a couple times a day as if adjusted and the water chemistry changed.  All in all looks like things are off to a good start

Thank you for the reply, I am adjusting the skimmer every so often in a day. As it has a habit of overflowing or being under the the cup. It's quite annoying

If the rock was Live Rock then you DO NOT need to cycle the tank, It is already cycled. You are doing more harm than good.

I like to keep my Salinity at 1.024 as well.  It gives me a small bit of breathing room for evaporation because I don't have an auto top off on this current set up.  Some other people I know that run FOWLR tanks will keep the salinity lower to make ich less likely.  That being said, with my FOWLR, I still aim for the 1,024.  The one place I get any fish from keeps it at 1,025 so acclimation is nice as well.
