I was going to go for a Tapajos biotope but ive decided while i have the chance with a bigger than i would like to try some bigger fish. Ive always wanted a Jaguar cichlid ever since i saw pics of nellys and while i have room for them i wouldnt mind getting one or 2.
I was thinking something along the lines of
1/2 Jaguar cichlids
1/2 White spot pike cichlids
4 Lima shovelnoses

And maybe a Chocolate cichlid or JD if there is room. Could that work/ Any one got any other ideas?

Cheers

Male jags are notoriously intolerant and aggressive. Not sure you would get away with anything even in a 150 with a large male jag.

BTW, if you like jags, have a look at this fella ! .....

I knew they where aggressive but i thought the Pike and Limnas should be able to handle themselfs but wasnt sure.
 There stunning. Do you think the tank would be big enough for 2 or is it only big enough for 1?

i love jags . big mean beasties . we will of course demand piccies should you get 1 .

Same. Of course but its not looking to good stocking wise. It looks like im going to have to pick between the Jags and the Limas and pike cichlids

Do you think i could have a pair of Jags 1 Pike and 1 Lima or would it be best to just keep the jags?

Wow quite a change in direction! What about keeping a single Jag? Cut down the aggression during breeding time and reduces any problems with fry.

Just thinking you could do a jag and an other bruiser maybe some kind of veija - then do a large rock pile/wood tangle - and a group of mid sized pikes but the decor would provide cover where the larger cichlids could not get into - I think hardscaped retreats could be the answer in this tank but they would need to be very much fixed down in someway to stop the jag and co from shifting them over.

Yeah i know, Its your fault keep showing me all these amazing CA cichlids  Nah but i just though while i have the room and chance to keep a jag i would love to and can always give some of the smaller fish a go later on. Hmm that does sound like a good idea but not sure if it would be worth the risk just incase the Jag did every get ahold of it. The white spot pikes get to 8" so i would think they would be big enough not to get eaten and be able to stick up for themselfs.
Do you think
1 Jaguar
1 Veija
1 White Spot Pike
2 Lima shovelnoses

Or maybe a type of Herichthys instead of the Limas.

That guy that hamfist linked, has a tank with a lot of brusers in I have seen his tank around the net and it seems to go pretty well but I think thats around the 700 gallon mark. But it could give you some idea as to what you want to get.

Also make sure you work out what Veija you want as there are a lot of differences between the species. A nice Boucourti would look awesome with a jag and a well pitched rival too :)

COuld work. I stick with Limas instead of Herichthys though .... much less chance of serious aggro from the jag.
