hey i just bought a new 12 compartment long tank for fighters...

its like 1 row with 12 dividers ... i plan to get colored plastic sheets to put on each divider so the bettas arnt stressed from flaring 24 / 7

there is a small gap under each divider for heated water to get through and i have a heater in the middle compartment

no gravel as this will block the space under each divider..

my question is how do you do regular water changes with this great long tank with ease?

i plan to get a filter system for to reduce the number of water changes needed and a long uv light to help kill bacteria

the only thing i cant think of is an easy way to change water in this thing as it is a small space.. too small to put a syphon in and i wouldnt want to syphon 12x one in each compartment

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

will the heater even heat all the compartments. And how logn so the tank and how big is each compartment.

yes the heater would heat all the comparments as the heated water can get under the spaces at the bottom of the dividers. yes how big is the tank diemensions? and what diemensions is each compartment?

its about 8 cm long 12 cm high and 15 cm width per compartment .. x 12 compartments .. the tank in itself is well over 1 meter long

.. as for the heater i havent tried it yet but if it doesnt evenly heat all the compartments than il just have to put 2 in .. but it should

yeah so about my question how do you easily clean and change water in one of these set ups..

its too big to carry outside and pour the water out and its too small to syphon and i wouldnt want to syphon 12x even if it wasnt too small..

is there any ideas?

If theres a gap beneath each divider it wont stop you from syphoning.
Also, you'll need to have the filter ouput and intakes on different sides to draw heated water through every compartment.

yep agreed with the filter sentence...

about the syphon its hard to get the syphon started and i would need to get into each compartment to get all the debris down the bottom (whatever the filter doesnt pick up) ... im not sure if i can even start it with that amount of space ... let alone starting it 12 times!

I don't think a twelve-compartment tank's such a good idea. It's a bit small and if one betta gets sick, well, you know what's gonna happen..

I agree, that definalty does not live up to the 1 gallon minimum space for bettas, and you're putting all of them in danger by keeping them is such small quarters. We all know how fast fishie diseases can spread.

I have to agree why do you want to keep 12 bettas when you could keep 1 in the tank and it be happy?

so each one is only 5 inches high and 6 wide with only 3 inches deep. This is inhumane IMO. They have nothing to stimulate them, no room to swim in and barely enough room to turn around. All they can do is swim up and down. No better than battery chickens. These vile things should be made illegal. Horrible horrible way to keep any living thing.

I have to agree with other people on here, that sounds far too small to keep Bettas in. From how you've described it, it sounds like the ones they use in the shops. Even though I don't agree with them, the shops use them as they know the fish are only going to be in there for a short period.

It sounds on par with the usual disgraceful conditions a lot of people keep their Betta in. Unfortunately for every one who thinks, there are idiots who want 12 in a row that dont.

lol i was warned about asking questions over these forums...

anyways thanks for talking about everything except the question i asked

I guess if you want people surrounding you agreeing with everything you say i'd suggest a tape recorder and a mirror.
Its a forum, dont fault people for providing their opinions.
If i wanted advice as to wether my computer would survive if i set my house on fire, i probably wouldnt get angry at people for pointing out reasons to not set my house on fire, instead of telling me if my computer would survive or not.
(plus i already told you the answers to what you asked)

It'd be SO fun to build a huge betta barracks, with like 5 gallons per betta. Unitized air system, unitized water changing system...yeah.

PS I get the feeling someone told you these forums are filled with fish activist/pita members, but lemme tell you from experience all these people care about is how fish are kept and how happy they are. If i had a friend that needed a question answered, this would be the /only/ place i'd reccomend.

Someone sold you that tank, they make a profit off of that. There is no money being made by anyone answering your topic, so you are going to get an honest opinion.

I would use some small tubing to siphon the bottom, start it once, then hold your thumb over the end that goes into the bucket when going from one compartment to another. You will only have to start the siphon once that way. A powerhead in the bottom one end compartment with a filter in the other end should circulate the heat & filtered water across all of them.

The only thing I could see using compartments that small for would be for small female guppys or platys that are ready to drop.
