Aquarium co-op has a $16,000 800 gallon tank as showpiece. Not one fish in it.

I bring it up because their vids are recommended all the time and Corey is thumbed sitting with that big tank behind him. Those vids are at least an hour nowadays,I'm not going to take the time..but wondered if anybody had heard of why that huge aquarium sits with only water, one type of crypt...

Aquarium co-op has a $16,000 800 gallon tank as showpiece. Not one fish in it.

I don't watch their vids since they are good for those new to the hobby. But over the last few years they have done videos of that aquarium..first it was 800 Tiger Barbs and those of course started to destroy each other from the get go. Then it was large Clown Loaches and Target fish..looked...

Never buy a very large glass aquarium.

With acrylic, you can,and I have done it, take out a scratch by using toothpaste on a clean rag,and just going over and over the scratch. Worked pretty good. If you do buy a used scratched acrylic, take the time to watch vids and using a palm orbital sander- cheap- and various grades of plastic...

    Anubis growing in pale.

You need Iron glutamate. Watch a miraculous recovery. Seachem's works great. Maybe Walgreens generic in pill form..but I've never used that. I have used pills of Potassium glutamate and its worked for Java fern that also did "straight line discolor" btw, fwiw. They now are bigger than ever and...

Never buy a very large glass aquarium.

There is a company that can actually go to your home and buff all scratches out of your huge ( whatever) size Acrylic tank...still with fish and water. I've seen it on the tube. Air driven power equipment and if they have to get into the largest tanks with a wetsuit- they will. I know ADA pushes...

Never buy a very large glass aquarium.

I was watching a youtube vid of the very famous David Sand's one or two thousand gallon reef tank in England. He mentioned that one day the glass shattered on its own. He said he woke up to ankle deep water in his apartment. He didn't say about the casualties or time to replace. If it had been...

Never buy a very large glass aquarium.

Oops.meant 2x8" beams. Again going over 75-100 gallons in glass is a real risk. Zero risk in Acrylic from a major long term company. That king of diy on the Tube? his builds are all acrylic. Tanks with just one pane he might have done in glass.

Never buy a very large glass aquarium.

I also meant to add that my 240 is perpendicular to the floor joists so it's like six, 4x6" beams are holding it up compared to half that or less, if I set it up against a wall. I also put plywood down over the floor to further spread out the weight. I know anything can break if treated really...

Never buy a very large glass aquarium.

Yes,you can even bolt acrylic tanks together. Viktor of Florida Fish rescue combined two acrylic tanks, one was 800 gallons and the other 400 hundred and glue welded and like you asked, used bolts to put them together. It works and he has a mega sized tank out of two aquariums that are not even...

Never buy a very large glass aquarium.

They are..but not exactly a huge discount...but that they cost less is a great incentive. I once talked to an expert on building aquariums and he said that even if my 240 sprang a leak? I could use a glue that sets underwater and isnt toxic in that small amounts to fish. He made it sound like...

Never buy a very large glass aquarium.

I just watched some guy give away 20g worth of busted 400 gallon reef tank (and protein skimmer taller than you) that just exploded. Then, you can watch an older vid of Lucas Bretz's 240 gallon glass tank- rupture. Go acrylic on 100 gallons or more. They never leak and that more than makes for...

Stan's freshwater 240 gallon extravaganza. Trials and tribulations of a sunlit aquarium

Thank you. After 50 years overall,I just didn't want to go down the road of add, add, add, and remove,remove,..all that. My fish are much less than what I used to stock..fine..they are also calm, unafraid of the grandkids tapping on the glass -lol. Younger people learn by doing that re stock or...

Stan's freshwater 240 gallon extravaganza. Trials and tribulations of a sunlit aquarium

I think I bought my last plant for quite a while. I have all that I wanted when I got back into the hobby- Bolbitis as in many an Amano tank,Tiger Lotus ditto. Alternanthera reineckii ,the one that actually thrives with no Co2. I'm giving my hobbies a rest for awhile. Just keep the gadgets...

ANOTHER KIDDIE POOL GUY WITH RARE FISH. The dregs of the hobby.

Back in the 70's I started with Kiddie pools and Goldfish. One thing about Goldfish? They are happy with just water and some food..grow thrive, spawn. I sometimes wish I had stuck to that part of the hobby. No guilt!

ANOTHER KIDDIE POOL GUY WITH RARE FISH. The dregs of the hobby.

No,he was wrong when he kept those fish, why make excuses or compare apples to oranges? Plenty of non endangered fish to keep, Colin. The sharks are lucky to be in a spacious public aquaria with top of the line everything including a fish vet. How many other "prisoners" get a death sentence?

question to advice in the best filter medium to use in freshwater sump.

I will always say to people...Aquarel poly filter in a bag is the best polyester you will ever find. Springy for months and months, doesn't matte down like a wet dog like quilt batting and for sure is better then poly cut into sheets or rolls. Amazon has Aquarel for a good price.

Anybody make a hi flo hang on prefilter for a sump? No drilling of your tank, easy to prime,no overflow?

I think the title asks it all. I've been waiting for that for decades. It would be so much better than a canister..use an old tank as sump, home depot pond pump ( they are strong when they get over 1,000 gph) and you are set. I was just watching btw,Ohio Fish Rescue take a 450 gallon mega...

An option to reef and natural plant aquariums. Macro algae in gorgeous colors and forms...

You are welcome. George Farmer was going to do a reef tank..and I told him forgetit. Time consuming and he would be a newbie at it. On the other hand he should try these macro algae. I would wonder if they too would do better on Co2?..iron for sure would help. I might try it one day. Marine...

How do I get rid of hair algae

Sounds like a minor breakout. You probably have too few plants for what the fish create in plant food. 6-7 hours of light should not be a problem. Maybe try covering your LED light to reduce the intensity?..for a short time while the algae fades and new plants get established.

    beware Aqueon equipment

I noticed their lights at petco were LED..that you bought extra. Weird..plug in LED. The total cost was in the $140-160 range. For that you can get other brands that you can adjust the colors to what pleases you and I imagine..brighter.
