    Any suggestions welcome, please

64l (approx 16 gall) tank, 24" x 12" x 15". Well established. pH around 7. Low to zero nitrate and nitrite levels. Slightly hard water, but don't know exact parameters. Lots of nice healthy plants At present 5 neon tetras; 3 nerite snails (Bob, Terry and Tallulah), one small ramshorn...

BIOFILM! Sudden occurrence- what to do?

Helo all. Have a 64l tropical tank - it housed 2 nerites, 6 neons and 2 glowlights (we had had more tetras, but the last three months saw a gradual dying off - I assume old age as nothing had changed and remaining fish are healthy). Real live plants and some rocks, gravel substrate. On...

I've lost 3 glowlight tetras - any suggestions

All females - developed what appeared to be swim bladder problems. First one a fortnight ago, and roughly one a week since. All apparently healthy, eating well, shoaling as usual, good healthy appearance - then suddenly swimming on sides. Bellies very swollen. With each I've "hospitalised"...

    I'm half-thinking of getting a bristle nose pleco . . .

As I understand that they rarely grow to more than 4 inches. (We had a common one some years ago - it was a monster and put me off them for four decades). How much can I expect to pay for one, and would one be suitable to share a 64 litre tank with 10 neons, 5 glowlights and two Nerite snails...

    Possible leaky tank

Came down this morning to a small puddle of water at the front of the tank. On inspection, there was quite a largish puddle of water at the back of the tank. I'm not sure if it's a leak, or if the sponges we have blocked holes with (to stop the Nerites and their "Mission Impossible" antics)...

ONE OF MY NERITES WENT MISSING!

One of my Nerites was missing! For two days we looked and couldn't find him - water quality didn't spike nastily so assumed he was slumbering among the weeds and left it at that. After all, when last seen he was pigging out on blanched cucumber - maybe he was sleeping it off. Today my...

    SNAIL!

Officially there are two zebra nerites in our tank (Ant and Dec*). They have been there about three weeks. They are a chunky pair, each about the size of my thumbnail. A week go, a small snail was spotted, gliding over the glass. Husband tried to grab it, but he dropped it in the gravel and...

    Coconut shells?

I am new, and last night was spending my leisure hours looking at all of the tanks entered into the past competitions. In one tank (I think it had a betta in it) were three, what appeared to be, half coconut shells, which had had little doorways cut into them to provide shelter for shy fish. I...

Cherry shrimp and nerite snails wanted

Hello - just getting a new tank established after several decades, and would like a couple of cherry shrimp and nerite snails to act as "bin men" in the tank. The tank is 64l, and is settled well with 6 x glowlights and 6 x neons We intend to add another 6 neons. If you are in the...

    How many fish?

We have just re-started fish keeping after about 30 years. Our new tank is 64l and approx 60cm x 35cm x 40cm (height). We set it up and cycled it four months ago, and when it was comfortably established introduced 6 rather sick-looking glowlights from Pets@home (I know, I know - we had a...

    Hello from Gateshead

Hello all! My husband and I (not - I'm not "her" :)) Have just gone back to fish keeping (indoors) after a break of nearly 30 years. We had a community tank which went the distance when we moved house - as it was a long journey we re-homed our fish, and just took the tank with us. Before it...
