Stocking 60 gallon! Oddball fish advice needed

Hi. The Fish shops said that Firemouths should be fine, but i should get rid of the tetras and guppies as they'll get eaten. Since the minimum tank size for fire mouths is 30 gallons they thought a 63 gallon would have no problems whatsoever. They also suggested maybe a group of geophagus...

Stocking 60 gallon! Oddball fish advice needed

Hi everyone! thanks so much for the replies. After a lot of procrastination, and going back and forth between ideas, I've decided to rehome my Guppies and Glowlight tetras in order to make space for larger fish and ensure they do not get eaten. I'm very sad to see them go but am looking forward...

Stocking 60 gallon! Oddball fish advice needed

I will be getting my new 60 gallon Aquarium (230L) in the next couple of months, and i'm speculating on stocking. I'm moving the fish from my 20 gallon community to the 60, as i don't have room for both tanks...so I'm relatively restricted on what I can have. The stocking currently: 2 honey...

Help with water parameters since switching filter

I would say your problems are probably coming from the fact you took out the old filter. Undergravels are very competent once running for a little while but when you change the filter you are essentially starting from square one. Nitrate can only be removed by you. Do larger more frequent water...

    75g Tank Stocking

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong category...i wasn't sure where to put it. I'm looking at setting up a 75gal tank (probably a long) at some point in the future. It will be heavily planted with driftwood and plenty of hiding places. Im looking at stocking it with some of the following...

Tropical fish for a 20 gallon?

Oh and the tank is a 20 gallon high, 24” x 16” x 12” I wasn’t told the GH put I’ve now located a more reliable source for my fish and I’m taking a water sample in this week. The other place didn’t really know what they were talking about and even tried to sell me a common pleco as a ‘small...

Tropical fish for a 20 gallon?

Hi! Sorry that was really unclear. I’m new to the forum. I have kept freshwater (cold/temperate) tanks for years, with a filter and pump but have never needed a heater or dealt with tropical fish. I have also never used anything larger than a 10 gallon so this is a little daunting. The tank is...

Tropical fish for a 20 gallon?

Hey, thank you for replying so quickly. The two in the pots are anubias and the aquatics centre told me to leave them in the pots until they root? The other two are planted properly...should I take the anubias out of the pot?

I am going nuts trying to get rid of an alge problem.

Of course, it is important to buy a fish because you want them and can accommodate to their needs-I was never suggesting otherwise, however if that fish is also beneficial to your tank and can solve a problem, then that is a factor I would consider.

I am going nuts trying to get rid of an alge problem.

Hey! First of all, where is your tank? If it is near a window or light source then you are always going to have algae problems unless you move it. What plants do you have? If you have plants that need a lot of light that might be a problem and also what fish do you have? What type of tank is it...

Tropical fish for a 20 gallon?

Hi, I have been doing research on fish for many years and have kept freshwater tanks for ever. This is my first time setting up a tropical tank and I’m struggling to find small ‘feature fish’ for my 20 gallon high. Just a note: I’m definitely going to keep some guppies, neon tetras and...

    Help!

Hi, this could be ich. I’m not sure- I have dealt with it once before and it can be devastating to your tank. I personally would ‘quarantine’ the fish and monitor him closely. If he shows any unusual behaviour or you see more spots treat the water with whatever you have available. Raise the...
