Not sure if this is algae or something else

My wife took over feeding after we noticed the fish losing weight (there also seemed to be an outbreak in the tank, causing the fish to wither away) Since the outbreak has been resolved and she took over feeding, the neons and raspboras are quite plump. I can maybe start by asking her to feed...

Not sure if this is algae or something else

Once I get home, I'll take a picture of my tank. I've tasked my wife with feeding the fish twice daily as she enjoys watching them swarm the food. I believe she does feed them way too much but I give the aquarium a good vacuuming once a week. The fish are becoming very plump since she took over...

Not sure if this is algae or something else

I googled images and it looks A LOT like black beard algae. In fact, I am 98% sure that's what it is. I'm curious how would I kill it off without harming the plants?

Not sure if this is algae or something else

Hi everyone, I apologize for not having pictures at this moment, but I've noticed a grayish 'fuzz' growing on my plants and what looks to be like fuzzy 'pods' growing on the side of my tank. It doesn't look like typical algae, in fact it almost looks like mold that grows on food. I think it's...

Lost another fish a few days after finishing medication

Thanks Colin, I don't have any frozen fish food so I was just going to mix it up with the bloodworms and flakes. Yummy!

Lost another fish a few days after finishing medication

That's a good idea, Colin. So, they come in powder packets and I have 1 packet left...should I mix it with the fish food for a week?

Lost another fish a few days after finishing medication

I'm sorry about that. I wasn't sure if I needed to create a new thread or not or if it would just be ignored if I continued the previous one. I am a little confused though, the directions for API general cure say to treat for 2 days and then 48 hours later, do a 25% water change (I changed...

Lost another fish a few days after finishing medication

Hi everyone, I posted about a week ago about Gouramis possibly introducing a nasty infection to my aquarium. I was advised to add API general cure and I added the recommended dosage for 2 days. I have since done about a 50% water change and put in a brand new filter cartridge. 1 day later, I...

Infection causing dropsy? Please help! Video link attached

Unfortunately, the harlequin didn't make it. I found him last night laying down on the bottom barely moving...I think treatment was too late for the little guy =( I added the second dose of API medicine this afternoon and will do a large water change tomorrow, as well as change the filter...

Infection causing dropsy? Please help! Video link attached

Hey Colin, I'm a bit confused now...or I may just be an idiot...LOL. The power filter has the fabric cartridges with the carbon (charcoal) built in. I could run it, but you mentioned removing any carbon? Should I open up the cartridge and dump the carbon and then run it...

Infection causing dropsy? Please help! Video link attached

Thanks for your hlep! I was able to find the API General cure and added 4.5 packets (45 gallons, 1 packet per 10 gallons) I turned off my power filter, maxed out my air pump to give max airflow and opened the hood to maximize aeration. I have doubts that the rasbora will be able to recover but...

Infection causing dropsy? Please help! Video link attached

I'm going to go out and try to find the API general cure in about an hour or so. Unfortunately, the rasbora is probably beyond recovering.

Infection causing dropsy? Please help! Video link attached

I haven't noticed any stringy white poop and can't find any this morning. This is the first time I've noticed the behavior with any of the rasboras. The neons have been losing weight for weeks and then usually I'll find them at the point of no return, barely moving lying down on the bottom of...

Infection causing dropsy? Please help! Video link attached

I was feeding once a day when they started showing symptoms but upped it to twice a day. My wife sometimes feeds them and I think she gives them too much. They 'appear' to be losing weight though in their mid sections, so I don't really know how overfeeding would cause them to lose weight.

Infection causing dropsy? Please help! Video link attached

I don't know what's going on, I've lost about 4 neon tetras in the past month and have another neon and a rasbora not looking very healthy. All of the fish look to be eating well, but their bodies are becoming disfigured in the middle like they're losing weight. They appear to be constantly...

    Ammonia in already cycled tank

Thanks Colin, I figured the dead fish (I removed on Sunday) probably produced massive amounts of ammonia but hoped the bacteria would have absorbed it by now. I will continue to vacuum the gravel every day until the ammonia levels drop. I just checked my water supply and it reads 0 ppm ammonia...

    Ammonia in already cycled tank

Hi everyone, Last night I performed a 50% water change and a good gravel vacuuming after a fish died a few days ago. I think the dead fish was sitting in there for about a day before I noticed it. Well, I tested nitrites/nitrates/ammonia just to be sure that the levels are all still good. I...
