I cannot shake this algae and it’s starting to starve my plants

Thanks! The tank isn’t super new, I set it up in the beginning of September, but I’ve had the amazon sword plants themselves since April or so.

I cannot shake this algae and it’s starting to starve my plants

I just tested my parameters about 10 minutes ago so I know they’re pretty accurate. pH: 8.4 (tap is nearly 9.0) Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrite: 0ppm Nitrate: 5ppm It is a 20 gallon high with 6 corys, 2 adult Gardneri killifish, and a couple Gardneri fry. Relatively under stocked I think, but fully...

    Dwarf Mexican Crayfish and Corys?

I’m thinking about adding a Dwarf Mexican Crayfish to my established 20 tall killifish and Cory tank. I’ve seen conflicting opinions on whether the crayfish will harass/eat the corys. I have 4 albino corys, 2 emerald. Is this a feasible combination or should I just skip out on the crayfish? I...

    Trouble with Algae

Thanks for such an in-depth response! I’ve been fortunate enough so far to not have to deal with too much algae, so I’ll probably decrease the light. I’m adding more plants later this week so hopefully that helps as well.

    Trouble with Algae

So I was having some trouble in my 10 gallon with this algae, but I moved and then transferred the fish and plants to a new 20 high. The 10 now has a betta and snails. Anyway, on my amazon swords and a little bit on my cabomba and rotala indica, there’s this fuzzy algae. Diatoms? What do y’all...

    Upgrading to a 20 gallon!

That makes a lot of sense! I think if I end up adding to this tank, I’ll add some ember tetras. Thank y’all!

    Upgrading to a 20 gallon!

so does everyone else recommend ember tetras over rasboras, like chili rasboras? I totally trust @NCaquatics, I just want to get as many opinions as possible and do the right research before getting any new fish

    Upgrading to a 20 gallon!

Thanks! The corys seem pretty happy and they all school together, so I’ll not get any more.

    Upgrading to a 20 gallon!

Definitely not - the killis are about 1.5 inches, 2 max. How many ember tetras would you recommend?

    Upgrading to a 20 gallon!

Only issue there is I already bought the tank because it was a really good deal - it’s a 20 tall.

How many rasboras would you say? I don’t want it overcrowd

Should I get 5 babies or one teenager?

I don't have any advice, but those are some pretty fish :)

    Upgrading to a 20 gallon!

I'm very excited as I am upgrading my 10 gallon to a 20 gallon. I currently have three adult (two female, one male) gardneri killifish and 6 corys (4 albino, 2 emerald), and two nerite snails. The tank is heavily planted and I intend to do the same with the 20 gallon. Cycling shouldn't take long...

    Gardneri Male won’t breed?

Thank you so much! I have changed their diet to (including bloodworms still), brinefish and high quality pellets as well. Once I made that change, I've already noticed the male hooking up with the ladies. Thank you for the advice!
