Spike in Nitrates and Water not clearing

Thanks, everyone for your replies. Below are some photos of the set up which is my first one. Its been a disaster so far with plants so I asked a box of easy starter plants from Aqua Essentials and they sent Rotala Orange Juice, Bacopa amplexicaulis, Limnophila heterophylla, Ludwigia Palustris...

Spike in Nitrates and Water not clearing

Can't see nitrate in the tap water or the test water, maybe the lightest hint of a colour but maybe just a trick of the eye it is so minimal. Nitrates in tap water 0.2 Nitrates in tank water after a 30-40% change yesterday have dropped from 40 to 20-25 (I use the Seachem drop kit - should have...

Spike in Nitrates and Water not clearing

HI. I've posted before and received good advice so I'm confident the problem can be solved. I have a Betta fish that is recovering well from a case of Fine rot he got about a few months ago. I have a Fluval Flex 32l filled to about 28/30l and was feeling able to start planting. I asked the...

    Red alert weather warnings

I didn't see this thread in time and found out the hard way what heat can do to you. I was with my 2 year old daughter trying to do the school run and collapsed with heat stroke. Campus security tried to call an ambulance and were told it was 2 hours. I felt like I was going to die but after...

How are we supposed to know if the fish has recovered after 2-3 days?!

    Fin rot or damaged/growing fin?

Hi Colin. I went ahead with the treatment and he is sitting low in the tank behind the heater coming out for an occasional swim. I put on an air stone because I read that is the right thing to do. I will be incredibly sad if the pin prick hole turns out to be what you describe. I am guessing...

    Fin rot or damaged/growing fin?

Appreciate you taking the time to reply. Without him flaring at the mirror, I am not sure how to get better video. I am wondering if it might be better to try aquarium salt again, at the higher dose rather than the medication? The hole in his back fin is a pin hole, and his fins have...

    Fin rot or damaged/growing fin?

Hi Colin. I just cleaned the tank today, not sure why the water would be cloudy. Can you not see the raggedness of the fins much worse than in previous pictures? There is a hole in the centre of the back fin also. We tried for ages to get photos and video but he wouldn't flare at the mirror...

    Fin rot or damaged/growing fin?

Hi Colin. It's been a while since I posted as I wanted to follow your previous advice and monitor. The fins continued to be raggedy and I made the decision to use aquarium salt (at your suggested dosage). He seemed to perk up but then started resting a lot and only eating sporadically. I...

    Fin rot or damaged/growing fin?

Hi Colin. he was still looking a bit raggedy after I monitored him for a week so I decided to follow the aquarium salt advice you gave at the initial low dose for 48 hours. I just put it in today - what signs of improvement should I looking for with possible fin rot in that time and should I...

    Fin rot or damaged/growing fin?

Thank you Colin. I appreciate you taking the time to reply. Do I add salt and then the remove it with 50% water changes? I feel bad that I may hav done him some harm as a rookie Betta keeper 😜

    Fin rot or damaged/growing fin?

Took a while :-) When you zoom in on the fin they are a bit translucent with a black crust and a few stringy bits. Maybe on the mend from a previous infection or something?
