    Cardinal Tetra bump?

The bumpy ones could just be females as they are typically much plumper than males. If they are behaving normally, eating, pooping, interacting with each other and in no obvious distress then I would not worry.

    Cardinal Tetra bump?

It is difficult to see these “bumps” on your fish, the tank water shows tiny particles that are getting in the way of a clear view. Do the bumps resemble a grain of salt on the exterior of the fish? Or is the body of the fish bulging outward?

    Is this dropsy? Platy

Even my walmart has some basic fish necessities and meds. That should hold you over until you can get more/better items from a pet store. Just research the salt stuff a bit, there can be misleading info out there and you don’t want to do more harm than good.

    Is this dropsy? Platy

Also, if/when you are able, stock up on various medications and other supplies in the event this, or anything else, happens again. Like broad spectrum meds, stress relievers, water conditioners, hospital tank setup, etc. You’ll be better prepared and your fish will have a better chance of recovery.

    Is this dropsy? Platy

You can also do partial water changes and routine maintenance to keep water quality the best you can. The salt treatment can be done on a single fish in a separate container temporarily, or you can treat the whole tank as long as the fish you keep can tolerate it. Good luck, I hope your fish...

    Is this dropsy? Platy

I read something about trying aquarium salt treatment to help draw fluids away, but I have never tried this myself. But this may only help the fish with the fluid retention. There are more effective medications available to treat the cause, not sure what your closest pet store carries. And I...

    Is this dropsy? Platy

I’m afraid that does appear to be dropsy, fluid accumulation in the tissues. This is a symptom of an underlying issue, such as a bacterial infection, parasites, dysfunctional liver/kidneys, etc… So dropsy in itself is not contagious but the cause of it may be. Best to quarantine and treat as...

    The Pygmy Cory Shimmy

I love the little Pygmies! I have 7, how many do you have? I love how they swim throughout the tank like regular fish and rest on plant leaves. Just adorable:wub:

One fish you really want but you dont have.

I do, several, and I check with them almost every week, that fish is never available for them to order from their supplier. Actually when I first got some, Petco told me they only got them by dumb luck or mistake or something. I always request special order but it’s always “unavailable”.

One fish you really want but you dont have.

Right. Shipping charges can be horrendous, plus the survival risk.. But I realize that may be my only option.

Still on my quest for those black emperor tetras, to add to my current party of one. :( Still hesitant to buy online..

    Position of pump in 20L

I have a 10g on the bar shelf between my kitchen and living room, visible from both sides. I have a Penn Plax Cascade 300 submersible filter and a Huijukon double bio-sponge filter (the smaller version) both on one side of the tank, so as not to obstruct its view between rooms. It works great...

    Hi there from Adelaide

Hello and welcome! It’s nice that you and your son enjoy this hobby together. When my son turned 9, I made the same attempt with a small 3.5g tank, one betta and two baby albino corys. It was very short-lived (much like the betta’s year) on his end but blossomed on mine, 4 years later those...

    Ever buy fish online?

Well I am actually a tea drinker, as I have European blood. So yeah -_- But, good point about the rest.

    Dragonfly nymph in pond

I have had ponds for years but I have never seen this before. Was amazed to discover these nymphs living there! First I thought they were some kind of insect that had fallen into the pond, I tried to rescue them out but they wouldn’t have it! So I left them alone and researched.. really cool:D

    Dragonfly nymph in pond

Hey, just wanted to share something not often seen… I have some of these little creatures in my small outdoor pond, currently fishless. Not sure how long they have been there, several months for sure. One “hatched” overnight. The dragonflies lay their eggs in the pond, which grow into these...
