    The bumpy ones could just be females as they are typically much plumper than males. If they are behaving normally, eating, pooping, interacting with each other and in no obvious distress then I would not worry.

    It is difficult to see these ā€œbumpsā€ on your fish, the tank water shows tiny particles that are getting in the way of a clear view. Do the bumps resemble a grain of salt on the exterior of the fish? Or is the body of the fish bulging outward?

    Even my walmart has some basic fish necessities and meds. That should hold you over until you can get more/better items from a pet store. Just research the salt stuff a bit, there can be misleading info out there and you donā€™t want to do more harm than good.

    Also, if/when you are able, stock up on various medications and other supplies in the event this, or anything else, happens again. Like broad spectrum meds, stress relievers, water conditioners, hospital tank setup, etc. Youā€™ll be better prepared and your fish will have a better chance of recovery.

    You can also do partial water changes and routine maintenance to keep water quality the best you can. The salt treatment can be done on a single fish in a separate container temporarily, or you can treat the whole tank as long as the fish you keep can tolerate it. Good luck, I hope your fish...

    Iā€™m afraid that does appear to be dropsy, fluid accumulation in the tissues. This is a symptom of an underlying issue, such as a bacterial infection, parasites, dysfunctional liver/kidneys, etcā€¦ So dropsy in itself is not contagious but the cause of it may be.     I do, several, and I check with them almost every week, that fish is never available for them to order from their supplier. Actually when I first got some, Petco told me they only got them by dumb luck or mistake or something. I always request special order but itā€™s always ā€œunavailableā€.

    I have had ponds for years but I have never seen this before. Was amazed to discover these nymphs living there!
