    Severums had babies

So, the orange Severum (adult) died yesterday. It had developed these dark grey "smudges" (for lack of a better term) on it. I can really find any info on that other than a post some guy posted back in 09, and nobody was able to help him with any info. Anyone ever heard of this? So far the...

    Severums had babies

Anyone know how long before they lay the next batch of eggs? They are kind of acting like they might have done that already? How will this effect the fry already in the tank?

    Severums had babies

So the fry are a month old now. The parents have filled that role exceptionally! If I have lost any fry at all it wasn't enough to notice. I do have a question though, as the fry get older, and bigger, will the parents continue to see them as their fry? Or do they start to just becomes other...

    Severums had babies

So, do you think I am out of the woods as far as them eating them? They are taking care of them, would they have eaten them by now?

    Severums had babies

When should they be moved? Why don't you like the breeders?

    Severums had babies

So, day 2. The parent don't seem to have any interest ineating any of the fry, in fact I have watched them go get some of them in their mouth when they wander to far, and bring them back to the group and spit them out. At what point do the fry just become smaller fish (i.e. food for bigger...

    Severums had babies

It is a 3 foot tall 150 gallon tank. For this to work I would need to move them to something else. Should I move them, if so, when?

    Severums had babies

When should I start trying to feed them? What should I feed them? I would imagine I need to crush something up? It's a big tank, how do I get the food to them efficiently?

    Severums had babies

I have several small established HOBs on other tanks, maybe put a sponge cover on the inlet of one of those and transfer it?

    Severums had babies

They are the only fish in the tank, as I suspected this would happen. Never tried to hand feed them. Unfortunatly the intake for the filter is at the same end of the tank as where the eggs were, (now fry) and it isn't really practical to change that set up.

    Severums had babies

My Severums just hatched a bunch of fry. It is my understanding from the previous owner of the parents it is not their first batch. I have turned off the previously bacteria established FX4 filter as to not suck them up, and I have a sponge inlet I will put on the intake. Will the act of...

    Angelfish

The tank is a year old now. 8 adult angels, they have paired off and get territorial now, but I find keeping the lighting low calms them down. On of these days I will thin the herd. Didn't have much luck with live plants, I think it's the light. Other than that the tank does well with a...

    Too much?

I kind of already have my own ideas on this, but thought I would see what others thoughts are. I have a 125 gallon freshwater tank running 2 canister filters and an HOB. Currently it is stocked with 1 Rainbow Shark, 6 Yo Yo Loaches, 8 Clown Loaches, 2 Pictus Cats, 2 small Plecos and about 80...

    New 165 gallon tank

I have recently aquired a 165 gallon glass tank. I am going to reseal the tank, which I have done several times on other tanks, but this one has 2 plastic internal overflow "chambers". I would like to remove both of them before I reseal the tank but not sure what to re-install them with. My...

    Earthquake Safe?

That's what I was thinking at first, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder if trying to prevent 1000s of punds of water from moving, will cause uneven pressure on several parts of the tank, causing failure. While I realize there is no guarantees in an earthquake, (I have been on top...

    Earthquake Safe?

I see you are in New Zealand? The only place on earth that probably has more earthquakes than we do:) This is kind of what I'm thinking, and attempt to stop the movement will instead cause added, uneven pressure on parts of the tank. There's really no "solution" in the event of an earthquake...

    Upcoming new tank

I like this list a lot. I will look into this more. I don't plan on live plants, the only place I've had any success with them is in my community tank and guppy tank.

    Betta help

What kind of test kit are you using? API, same kit I use on my other 7 tanks. What do you mean by "suckers"? Bristlenose Plecos. Where do you buy the bettas? Local pet stores, one was aprivatley owned store and one was Petsmart.
