Welcome from the east coast of Canada!

Twist my rubber arm why don’t ya? Alright, so we’re living out in the country now… I have tree line separating me from my neighbours on both sides. The side closest to the house is pretty dense. Lady a few properties away, think 1/2 to 3/4km away kept geese, and a bunch got away. I’ve been...

Welcome from the east coast of Canada!

I will for sure! I’ve got the little ones respecting nature and telling them if you don’t plan on eating it, leave it alone! I’ll miss hunting season this year, because my courses are happening at the tail end. But my boys are well on their way to respecting and leaving nature be… as long as...

A side note from my return…

I’m not going to say what area or beach I was at… But I was wading through the water and checking out the local sea life… Hermit crabs EVERYWHERE. Ranging is size from 1/4” to 3/4” sometimes up to 1”. Literally stand in one spot and see 5-6 of them in choppy low visibility water. Got me...

Welcome from the east coast of Canada!

We’re partially settled in. Just wanted to stop by and say hi, wish everyone well! I’m more than a few months away from even considering setting up a tank, but the thoughts are always percolating in that realm. Anyways, thought I’d share a photo with ya, I’m not sure how many of you are fans...

    My new aquarium setup!!!

Also, you’ll all be happy to know my fish were rehomed to a guy with a huge fish room with plenty of quarantine space, and I sold my tank setup to some guy who was getting a tank for his son, who wanted to get into the hobby. That’s a pretty awesome setup for your first. I’ve got my own...

    My new aquarium setup!!!

That’s right! I no longer have an aquarium! I know right? BOOOOOOO! I’m getting out of the hobby temporarily. My family and I are making a huge change in our lives, we’ve sold our house here in Ontario, Canada. Taking advantage of the out of control real estate market here, and we’ve bought a...

Aquabarb - 2021 Tank of the Year Winner!

That’s true. I’m proud of that setup, had I not sprung a leak in the tank it would still be running today. As long as I get to participate on this forum and enjoy the tanks I have, see some other cool tanks our other members have, that’s the real win. Good luck to everyone in the new year, both...

How high off the ground would you say a tank needs to be to easily gravel vac/siphon the bottom? And other stand questions.

I did not realize you were that young. Is there any point to building it yourself to save money? Not at this point. If you continue in the hobby and building custom stands for certain setups is something that interests you, by all means, drop me a line and I’ll be happy to help. In the...

Absolutely. One day, when the kids are grown up and gone, I’ll

One fish you really want but you dont have.

It’s one of those fish that people get sucked into buying because they’re striking with their colour at the pet store, but they don’t tell you how big they can get and how aggressive they can be. I’d love to have one, but can’t keep it right now. One day though, I’ll have one, it will be glorious.

    Fish are friends AND food…

Man, did it ever turn out great. I’d reckon better than any store bought stuff I’ve had in the past. I’ll be doing this again, for sure!

I will hopefully start on some sketches tonight and that would be awesome if you could model it for me.

How high off the ground would you say a tank needs to be to easily gravel vac/siphon the bottom? And other stand questions.

That’s a ton of questions to answer that I can’t get to right now. Again, it’s hard to explain it for me because my mind is wired to see structural framing in a certain way, and I’m not sure I’m entirely capable of getting my points across in a forum setting, I’m too hands on and usually need to...

How high off the ground would you say a tank needs to be to easily gravel vac/siphon the bottom? And other stand questions.

I would also like to take this second to say that using screws is 100% good, as long as they are used in the right fashion, every stand I’ve built was made out of screws, but it’s the plywood wrapping that gives these stands the strength. I spat out a lot of information here and writing back...

How high off the ground would you say a tank needs to be to easily gravel vac/siphon the bottom? And other stand questions.

I don’t know how to use the fancy design software some of these people use to make plans, but I I certainly wouldn’t be opposed to sketching up some plans. It would do you some good knowledge to research the difference between nails and screws and why plywood wrapping would significantly...

There is a lot to cover here… First off, let’s look at the second picture you uploaded. The turquoise which will now be named blue, are boxes top and bottom. The yellow pieces are guides, meant to set the height for the entire structure, flush on top and bottom of the blue boxes. Pink and...
