Questions about setting up my 90 gallon tank again...

Back to stocking, I would recommend looking at African cichlids, specifically mbunas. They get quite a bit larger than tetras/guppies and in my experience are much hardier once the tank is established. With your size tank you could probably fit a nice sized group in there.

    White Blotch on Peacock Cichlid?

This is the product I have, I would assume it's just plain sodium chloride with a fancy label: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0010P82UO/?tag=ff0d01-20 I would think that stresscoat has other benefits as well. "Replaces fish’s protective coat damaged by handling, shipping or fish fighting with...

    White Blotch on Peacock Cichlid?

Should I continue using stress coat along with salt? I have a carton of aquarium salt (not marine salt) I can use.

    White Blotch on Peacock Cichlid?

The water parameters in the big tank are as followed Ammonia- 0ppm Nitrite- 0ppm Nitrate- 40ppm- before water change, probably closer to 10 or 20 now pH- 8.2 Very hard/Alkaline water I've been doing weekly 50% water changes on the quarantine tank and dosing API Stress Coat (I know it's not...

    White Blotch on Peacock Cichlid?

Hey everyone, As stated in the title, one of my cichlids has something abnormal going on and I'd like some advice on how to fix it. It seems that he has a white "blotch" on the top of his head near the dorsal fin that may be destroying tissue :nailbiting:. Funny thing is, is that he behaves...

    Possible Copper Poisoning?

I treat the whole tank with Prime with every water change; once while it's refilling and again after completion. Should I triple dose the tank by adding Prime before refill as well?

    Possible Copper Poisoning?

I admit my wording was a bit confusing, but no one's making you follow my thread so please don't get hostile with me if you're not here to help. Thank you.

    Possible Copper Poisoning?

My mistake, I didn't word my process correctly. Let's say I do a 50% water change, I'll add Prime while the tank is refilling as well as after the water change is complete; I'm well aware of how chlorine affects the system (I've accidentally killed 80% of a tank this way...).

    Possible Copper Poisoning?

I never replace filter media (biomax). I rinse out the sponges and replace carbon/filter pads with every other water change. I add the correct dosage of Seachem Prime after water changes are complete.

    Possible Copper Poisoning?

That makes sense. However I don't think it applies to my tanks as they never go more than two weeks without water changes. Even if this was the culprit, how does it explain the ammonia reading?

    Possible Copper Poisoning?

There's two different bottles! Just "Flourish" and "Flourish Excel". I am NOT using the latter. I didn't mean to link those products, the forum does it automatically. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00025696M/?tag=ff0d01-20 is what I was using.

    Possible Copper Poisoning?

Nope. Does not say Excel anywhere on the bottle.

    Possible Copper Poisoning?

The name of the fertilizer is actually Flourish, not Excel, my mistake. Can you explain this "old tank syndrome"? I'm unfamiliar with that term.

    Possible Copper Poisoning?

Hey everyone, So I've recently gone back to live plants but cannot afford a co2 system at the moment so I've been using Seachem Excel as a supplement. Now ever since I started using this fertilizer some strange things have been happening and the only factor I can connect this behavior to could...

    Gonna give plants another shot

The KH/GH of my cichlid tank fluctuates between 179 and 215 ppm according to the API test kit. My other tanks should be slightly lower because they do not contain limestone rock.

    Gonna give plants another shot

So I'm a little confused. I thought plants need additional co2 (Excel) and fertilizers (Flourish/root tabs) to thrive? What could I substitute excel with to compensate for c02? I don't know the exact water hardness of my tanks but I do know that my tap water is very hard. The pH of all three...

    Gonna give plants another shot

I am definitely switching from plastic to glass tops for my tanks since I'm also changing from fluorescent to LEDs. Could I use Seachem Excel instead of Flourish? I was planning on using root tabs for non-floating plants. I checked out those sites and them seem to have pretty good selections...

    Gonna give plants another shot

Hey Everyone, I haven't tried plants in a few years due to them completely messing up my 55 gallon and burning a hole through my wallet, but I think I'm ready to give it another try. I have a few questions to ask before I actually make any purchases. 1) I was planning on using a Finnex...
