Who's next in my new 55 gallons?

A week late but here are the numbers i saw on the official city site. Sorry, it's not in English. On Qa, highlighted in orange in Paint are 'dureté' which means 'hardness' and the 106 average of the tests made last august. On Qb, are the number of tests that came higher than the government norms...

    My high school platy tank

Ah, the famous rows of bubbles for every fill of water in a new tank! One of the early organic signs of life to come. Congrats on bringing a window of a new world to these students :)

Who's next in my new 55 gallons?

Although i have nothing to hide (well not much), like most people, i don't want to expand on my precise location. But i can do a screen capture the next time i go there. Right now i'm closing shop, maybe tomorrow morning but more probably on monday. But don't worry, even during the new year...

Who's next in my new 55 gallons?

Just to clarify, the 106 number comes from the city's site, and i'm not completely sure i got the right one, as there was a lot of numbers on their water quality page. The 3 local fish keepers did not give me numbers, they used words to the effect of 'slightly hard'. I always do the average...

Who's next in my new 55 gallons?

Thanks for the link. One of the things it says is, of course, you cannot put a hard water fish in totally soft water, and vice-versa. In no way, i have ever stated it could be done that way. The main question: is my local water hard or soft? From 3 testimonies of local fish keepers, the tap...

Who's next in my new 55 gallons?

Life is not just a set of numbers. Science is not just chemistry. I intend to continue keeping an open mind about the complexity of living. Have a nice day.

Who's next in my new 55 gallons?

I'm sorry about your situation. Maybe i didn't comprehend the exact number i got from the city's site (there was a lot in there). But, at the time, it seemed to fit the other infos i had. Like you said, fishes have a complex relationship with their aquatic environment, so, for me, it is...

    molly report

Yeah, i have seen a lot of what you describe over the years. But never to this extent, where a whole sub-species is ignored like this. Before she passed, i had Mathilde in the 25, she was the matriarch, she ruled even over the platies (to some degree)! But after her, pecking order was pretty...

Who's next in my new 55 gallons?

Cruel to the fish? Hope i don't meet the criteria. But if someone would judge that by an extra strict set of numbers, that not even all the experts agree on, i would fit that. You're right, nobody can talk to a fish, expert or not. But one can observe in addition to calculate. If i have a molly...

Who's next in my new 55 gallons?

I will take everything you mention under very sincere consideration. Having said that, even if i want to learn, i must also go with the experience i've had of the past 24 years. Like i said in a previous post, perhaps i've been lucky, but i've never had strange deaths in my tank. Every time i...

Who's next in my new 55 gallons?

To Byron Extra infos: -in the 25, there were tetras (neons and cardinals) for years with the mollies. I transferred them in a new 15 gallons last year. -some of the water in the 55 also comes from the 15 -both 15 and 25 were originally filled with the tap water (not sure what the ppm was at...

Who's next in my new 55 gallons?

Ok. But this is the number for the tap water, as asked previously. The water for my 55 comes, in good part, from my 25 that as been running for years with mollies (my last 2 were transferred in the 55). And this is what i saw about water hardness from McGill university: The hardness of water is...

Who's next in my new 55 gallons?

So, i've added my rummy noses, after checking the water hardness in my region (106 ppm from last august, which is considered, if i understand correctly, moderately hard, which is just about what my guy at the store told me). I added 12 two weeks ago and 3 more three days later. So far, all 15...

Why is my Rummy Nose Tetra's head white?

I had the same experience: at the store, 1 out of 3 had red noses, 1 white and the last was in the middle. But, as soon as i put the bag in my tank (to do the temperature transition), with all the colors surrounding them, they all got back their true colors! So, unless there is a definite...

    molly report

So apparently, not many people are interested in mollies. Too common perhaps, but i like them. So i've added a male gold dust and it seems to have balanced things nicely. Not perfect tough, Sebas and Doric still stay together a good amount of the time, the dalmatians too but there is more...

    Ahoy, godlike aquatic life lovers

Yeah, i've heard that too from friends. But it's not of them i thought when i made that ironic statement. My cat doesn't think i'm a god, it's more like 'hey you, give me food if you want me to be zootherapeutic'! But for the fishes, i've always wondered how they see us: we are so outside their...

50g Lake Tanganyika Shell Dweller Tank

Not to repeat myself but i also like the third one of the last three! Back to your original post, what do you mean 3D background (as opposed to a dark one)? Do you mean that instead of a 'wall of rocks' the picture has depth?

Who's next in my new 55 gallons?

I've decided to wait a few days for more checks and water tests before i introduce the rummy noses. But i have a report on the mollies in a new thread: https://www.fishforums.net/threads/molly-report.477652/

    molly report

First, i've nearly always had mollies. Of course, when you start, they have one of the best ratio price/colors/toughness. But for me, it's also the excellent ratio energy/non-agressiveness. I have a bit of a crush on dalmatians, here's my experience on them. Apart from those i just bought, the...

50g Lake Tanganyika Shell Dweller Tank

Personally, i like the third one, for the possibility of the caustic effect being extended in the picture. It seems about the same depth as the tank. That's just IMHO. But they're all very nice anyway.
