    Is This An Ulcer?

Hi, my platy just gave birth about three days ago and now she has this lump on her side. Is it an ulcer? She was being chased by two competing males, I'm wondering if she somehow got injured. If it is an ulcer, what's the best treatment...salt? The only other thing I can think of is a tumor...

Ethical Question: What To Do With "runts" Of The Litter?

Hmm, thanks everyone. I'm still undecided what to do...I might just wait to see how the guy (or gal) develops as I don't know the extent of the weaknesses. Rehousing could be an option. But I'll definitely make sure they don't breed. :-(

Ethical Question: What To Do With "runts" Of The Litter?

Hi, I have about 20 guppy fry now two months old. I can now see a few which have bent spines or are not developing quite properly. My question is what should I do with them? What do others do? It seems awful to euthanise them when they are 'healthy' and could go on to live their lives, but I...

    Filter Media Advice Needed Please

Thanks so much! I'll give that a try. I'm just nervous because I've not done it before!

One Guppy With Dropsy And One Guppy Listless

I've tried interpet no. 9 but it depends how far along the dropsy is, I think it's better for keeping the other fish healthy than healing the sick fish. My guppies tend to be less hardy than my platy and tetras, so it's a long shot.

    Filter Media Advice Needed Please

Hi, I have a Classica Paradom 60 tank and I've never replaced the filter media but it's starting to fall apart. The tank is fully cycled and established. I don't know what type of filter I need. It is a freshwater tropical tank and I believe it came with a fine white polyester sponge filter, but...

Guppy Stuck On Her Side, Help!

Well, she died yesterday. Poor girl. I need to get some clove oil so I can euthanise in future if it seems necessary.

Guppy Stuck On Her Side, Help!

Hi, just tested: Ammonia- closest to 0.0 Nitrite- closest to 0.0 Nitrate- 0ppm I say closest to because I do have a tiny touch of green in ammonia and pink in nitrite test tube, but that is normal as I presume that is not yet processed by the filter. I have a 60ltr tank and do 10 or 20ltr...

Guppy Stuck On Her Side, Help!

Oh, so there is some different medication for internal parasites? I thought it was the same thing. She's not doing well and I suspect will pass on today, and now it sounds like I've messed up my filter too. Ugh, this fish keeping stuff is hard. Gonna test my levels right now and will post again.

    Inactive Guppy

You may be over feeding? The poop sounds the right colour, just too long. It's a good idea to feed every other day the first week. Also, did you cycle the tank? If not, you need to change about half the water immediately and read up on cycling a tank. Did you use any tank starting chemicals...

Guppy Stuck On Her Side, Help!

Hi, my guppy Charlotte gave birth two days ago and this morning she's floating on the top on her side, struggling to straighten up. I did notice she had stringy poo yesterday and treated the tank for internal bacteria as I had lost another female guppy last week to the same (but she never went...

    Nature's Stocking

Hmmm, interesting. I have been reading about inbreeding recently on several forums and its not recommended. I would be tempted to get another male so you don't have a bunch of fish all descended from the same father. As it is, you won't be able to stop brothers and sisters from the same mother...

    Fin Nipping Female Guppy...advice Needed

Came down this morning to find his fins nipped even more and he was hiding in the plants and didn't eat when I fed them. I've now moved him into the breeding tank and taken Lola the fin nipper out. I'm worried about him. The water parameters are normal (no ammonia or nitrites, low nitrates, pH...

    Is She Preggers? (Pics Inc)

Don't put her in a tank. How many other fish is she in with at the moment? Platy fry are pretty shy and good at hiding, if you ignore them a few babies will make it. Just crush up a few bits of flake food really fine. Platy also pick at algae quite happily, so I wouldn't bother separating the...

Help! Platy With White Haze On Eye?

Hi, just to update...I did a big water change and her eye cleared up in two days. I keep having ammonia spikes, tank is taking forever to cycle fully so I'm blaming the water. But at least she recovered quickly. Thanks for all the help!

    Fin Nipping Female Guppy...advice Needed

I need some advice, one of my female guppies is due her first brood of fry some time next week. Today she started badly nipping the tail of my male guppy. She had been bullying him quite a lot, but when it turned to nipping I wasn't happy. I tried moving her into my smaller tank that has fry in...

Help! Platy With White Haze On Eye?

I have been trying, but she's always behind the plants or burry. It is literally a whitish sheen on the eye, and from the front (looking at the eye from the side) it looks like there may be slight bumps. Sorry, but I don't think I could get a photo that would show it...

Help! Platy With White Haze On Eye?

I was just looking at my fish and noticed my red platy has a white haze over her left eye. What could this be? I don't know whether to treat for fungus or white spot/parasite? Is it related to fin rot? I want to nip it in the early stages, but not sure what it is! It looks like there might be a...

Tank Cleaning Question From A Newbie

Wow, that's so helpful fluttermoth, thanks. I just thought I had better check. I think I'm doing it right, but I will rinse the filter pad off next time I do the water.
